That's a bit of an old dog. I worked on a 30-40 year old one for 10 years in the 90s-2000s and could grind to tenth of a thou! Just shows how good these machines are!
@leonrdopercivalli6164 Жыл бұрын
hey friend, could you explain to me a little about the system of chains and springs that it has at the bottom of the machine, I'm about to buy one and I know very little about the subject
@jimcarr659511 ай бұрын
I don't know how they work exactly but I worked on a 40 year old imperial one and a 20 year old metric one! Obviously the older one had more backlash on it so you had to be more careful on your precision! We sold the old one after I took over all of the crank grinding but the newer one is still being used to this day at the place where I worked and its about 60 years old. They are very reliable machines, either of them never went wrong whilst I used them and the newer one has never went wrong since I left the place in 97. One of the lads I worked with bought the buisiness after I left so I still see the machine from time to time.

True I to have one at my workshop it easily takes a cope of 25 mm at a time whereas TOS or other European makes takes 15-20 mm maximum that to terrible shakes need to be controlled by use of steady or any other support.

One of the worst and numbest lathe I ever had the displeasure to use. Horrible.
@codprawn4 жыл бұрын
Why? Which model they made a wide range!
@neilmchardy90614 жыл бұрын
codprawn it was just like the one in the video except it had a longer bed not sure of model numbers it was quite a few years ago, they were all sharp corners and clumsy and without any “feel” just a numb machine.

Wheel dress and metal very hard
@dodienko4 жыл бұрын
Not a knee-type, as the head is moving in the z direction, knee type is when the bed is moving in z direction.

Does the power feed to the cross slide not work ? The gear change lever above the start/stop is in a funny position. Is it fitted correctly ? It's usually 45° north west or north east for fully meshed.
@codprawn3 жыл бұрын
I wondered why it was so quiet running. No Colchester gear thrash! It's in neutral and running off a direct drive!

I used to operate one of those in the mid-80's, although I started off on a wee Myford. I used to hate removing the collet to bolt the 4 jaw chuck on the bugger! This brings back so many memories; mixing the coolant & constantly filling up bags of swarf to go to the scrapyard & get weighed-in :)
