Great video. What is the bolt for? Is it necessary with all the screws in place?
@GatesExpectationsАй бұрын
Over time screws can work loose whilst the bolt doesn't tend to and can be tightened up if required.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it though 180 pounds is around $200 I think which seems high. Thanks.
@GatesExpectations4 ай бұрын
The £180 pair are Marine Grade Stainless Steel and are probably the dearest gate hinges you can get! Galv (in the video) and the standard black are a lot more economical.

I really like your video. Thank you. Would you please tell me where you got the hinges? They look like they would support a 11 foot span gate (both sides).
@GatesExpectations5 ай бұрын
Thanks! They are cranked band and gudgeon hinges and can be found @ www.woodworkersuk.co.uk/hinges/

I SPLIT IT , UNFORTUNATELTY SAW THIS VIDEO AFTER THE FACT BUT IT'S OK, THERE'S A BOLT ON IT
@John..185 ай бұрын
Easy way to stop a slack fit in the receiver, is simply to wrap a good few turns of insulation tape round the bolt, till you get a snug fit, if this wears over time, it only takes a few minutes to replace the tape,,

Can you tell me how to adjust the hinges. I have a double gate with these hinges and they appear to have dropped in the middle and the tops of the gates in the middle are rubbing together. Can they be adjusted.
@GatesExpectations7 ай бұрын
Hi, the hinges shown are 'cranked band & gudgeon hinges and not really adjustable without either repositioning the hinges or hinge plate. For something adjustable you'd need something like www.woodworkersuk.co.uk/adjustable-hook-band-gate-hinge/
@elderwitch86328 ай бұрын
Good information. But those latches are garbage. There's so much play in the handle and they usually break at some point (Some dumb monkey usually pulls to hard or doesnt shut the door properly so it slams against the latch).

Alignment keeps going out due to weather for this bolt. What’s the permanent solution to this?
@terrythomas790 Жыл бұрын
Now with that upper hinge upside down, to keep someone from lifting it, puts ALL the weight of the gate on just the bottom hinge! I dont think thats a good idea at all. All you had to do is to mark the exposed end of the "pin" of the hinge, and drill a small hole through it, and put a nail , or some sort of pin in that, to keep the gate from being able to lift, and that way , the weight of the gate rests on both hinges.
@GatesExpectations7 ай бұрын
It's a years old tradition to spin the top hinge pin upside down to avoid the gates being lifted off. No problems in doing so at all.

There's lots of videos on this subject. IMHO This is the best - thanks Gate Expectations!

If worried of drilling through gate just cramp a sacrfishal block of wood on the outside and just drill through into to it with no splitout TADAR
@rickallen91675 ай бұрын
Or even forget using any sacr fish blocks 🐠 and go straight for a sacrificial one!😂

Great stuff.. here's a few problems I encounter on the days I get up and decide I fancy fitting a padbolt; 1) 'line the padbolt up visually or use a combination square'. A what? I'll go for the visually option I think, 'works for me.. 2)"predrill" ? Sorry I only speak English what language is that? 3)'If you're fitting bolts'. ??? Jesus screws is a big ask, don't push me. 4)Where can I get a "receiver" about 3 inches wide 'cos my dodgy gate's bound to fall on its hinges somewhat. (Aren't gates supposed to slope inwards towards each other, isn't that how they have 'em these days?) 5) 3.00 in; "it's also worth checking at this stage that the bolt of the padbolt does slide in and out of the receiver easy enough". Oh damn, what did I do wrong?.. 6) I forgot the bit of red tape on the drill bit and the back of the gate's a mess, ahghhhhh... 7)"It can rattle in the wind...it can be quite annoying.." 'Wife says she likes it like that, she can hear when I get home late and sneak in round the back. 8) 'Give the receiver a belt with a hammer'.. sounds good to me. 9)'Chisel out the timber so ytou sink the receiver in..' Do you think I've got all bl**dy day? 10)I'm sure this gate will stand up to a few more screw holes. 11)Where's the caulk? (I don't think it was an expensive gate anyway). 12)I'll stick to changing lightbulbs ;)

Hi there have some adjustable hinges from you guys. Haven't installed yet but looking at the parts, if I place the eye bolt onto the pin there's a reasonable amount of 'play' I e. Will cause the gate to hang down at an angle. Any way to account for this? I.e. make the pin essentially bit wider or eye narrower, assume paint would just flake off.
@deanbh90 Жыл бұрын
I have the same hinges and came here looking for the exact same answer.
@neilbright5346 Жыл бұрын
@@deanbh90 In the end when I installed them it really wasn't the issue that I expected it would be. I think I installed the top hinge set back (I e. Very slightly away from the gate when closed) but really wasn't necessary and I think any play you may get would be easily fixed by tightening top hinge a bit more.

Is the arch multiple boards or is it one piece of wood that was steam bent? Also what type of wood is this?

Lovely wood on that beautifully designed gate! I'd suggest installing the carriage bolts the other way (as designed) and capping with acorn nuts, but your way certainly works.
