Would this also work with black locust trees? I've a few around, and I quite like them, and they are native to my area. I've plenty of room so they can spread. I have heard they make great fence posts when dry, but if used 'green' will freely root. As I have an area at the top of the hill that was covered with Tree-of-Heaven (now all dead :) ) I'd like a fast growing tree that would help with erosion. So my question is has anyone any experience with live staking Black Locust trees?

Ryan is a good teacher. I've watched his entire Forest for the Bay series. Very informative.

So, considering the thousands of lawsuits revolving around the negative impacts of herbicides on human health, are you exploring alternatives? Would more frequent string trimming work? Would it be cost prohibitive due to increased labor? Thanks.

What are the second and third rows of trees for? Seems to me like if you're planning to lose a row of trees or two that's a lot of erosion.

Just think, if we were to let the erosion continue for a few million years we could have another Grand Canyon!

Don't forget creeks and river systems naturally move themselves and have been doing that for millions of years

I appreciate you trying to bring it back but don't use herbicide don't use pesticides don't use anything like that you wood chips for smothering technique or something like that

Beaver dam analogs, followed by beaver dams. Cheap and cheerful. More miles of stream per dollar.

As someone who wants to add more native plants where would be the best place to find them? The local nurseries and big box stores do not seem to carry these items. Is there a listing of native nurseries? I'm personally in the Frederick MD area, but I'm sure many people from all over the watershed would benefit from such a resource.

Check with the following organizations in your state: Cooperative Extension Service, Master Gardeners, Native Plant Society, the staff of your state, county or regional natural resources department, or a nearby natural history museum. Many of them hold or sponsor events where native plants are featured or have links to resources for your local area.
