Thanks to Dave B and PDub for the feedback about Platform tennis in Chicago and CT. I know of a few public places in both of the those cities but I still believe, in my experience, there are far too many private clubs and country clubs that have them. Personally, I manage a private swim club and hope that I can convince the board to install platform or padel courts but I do believe more reasonably priced public courts are the only way to sustain the sport. Notwithstanding, padel and platform tennis provide a third space to build community and prevent the division that we are experiencing in this country. Too many folks are online and vulnerable to foreign forces trying to sow division and violence. Living in the real world practicing a healthy activity with other Americans has been what has kept us together. The YMCA developing basketball and volleyball for all the people is a great example. Unfortunately, we are moving toward a dreaded repeat of the Guilded Age for the wealthy to steal everything away for themselves. Only the uber wealthy have time for recreation. It's a recipe for societal collapse which we are seeing today. PS. Pickleball is not the answer. You won't convince me otherwise. Firstly, the came onto the scene in an arrogant way. They continue to be arrogant and the game is just not fun. You learn it too quickly and then there is no more challenge or exercise. It's a ridiculous game. I call it the shuffleboard of the 21st Century. Even Bocce is more exciting than pickleball.

Why does platform tennis insist on growing the game at country clubs and not helping grow public courts with reasonable memberships and court fees? It is shameful. I grew up playing platform tennis in Pittsburgh, PA playing up until midnight but I watched platform tennis die out and I can't tell if this is a serious comeback or not. We should be embarassed that pickleball even took hold. Entirely asinine game. Uninteresting points. Little to no athleticism. I see much more intelligent leadership in Padel. Better decisions by Spanish companies like Taktika will grow the game exponentially over the next few years. I predict that platform tennis will be absorbed by it. It is a shame.

Murphy was robbed. Video shows he obviously touched it. The other guys should have taken him at his word. I’d be p***ed but Midwest nice gave in to East coast. . . something.

Paddles had become very boring to watch. The game has become so risk averse. Almost like watching pickle.

Very weird situation. A player is allowed to follow through over the net, and he can reach over the net to hit if the ball is traveling that way, but is he allowed to hit another player as he does so? Can the other player use their body to impede the swing (seems unlikely)? If the follow through hits them, who gets the point? What if the contact happens as the second player is attempting to play the ball? In this case, it looks like the Granger successfully volleyed the ball back after Wagner's follow through clipped his paddle. The official apparently said he couldn't see clearly and they played the point over. That time, Baxter's similar serve landed short and Wagner missed on his attempt to hit it on the way up. Two points later, down match point, Baxter tried the same serve and missed it long to end the match.

I love having John Kilmer as an announcer this season. He gives a lot more insightful and actionable insight that a club player can use.

Also, it seems the red team was hitting a ton of shallow lobs, where the lob was returned from the service line, or even inside it. Is it just too hard to get a deep lob and get it to stay in? Or is that a strategy?

At the 3:41 mark, why didn't the red guy smoke it at the blue guy up at the net? Is that bad form? Asking for a friend.....

Wish the commentary was more like watching tennis. They actually describe the points….what they do & don’t don’t do…they give nuggets sometimes, but too much about other stuff that could be covered during changeovers. Love the tactical comments when they come. Laura definitely gives a few more tips and critiques

Platform tennis should be huge by now! The Platform Tennis Association should be ashamed at how little they've done to promote the sport and allow for its decline.

There was a court, in my Long Island town, back in the mid-70s. My friend and I played regular tennis, then saw this funky setup, tried it, and had a lot of fun. I'm surprised it never became massively popular.

Padel Tennis has a court roughly twice the size of Platform Tennis, which is played on a court 1/4th size of a regular tennis court.

Platform Tennis was invented in 1928. Originally designed as an outdoor sport that could be played in winter, its court dimensions were dictated by the inventor’s sloping property which required a court smaller than tennis.

We played this game in catholic school throughout the 50’s and 60’s - it was called volley tennis. Wish there were videos of those games. Back then there were two sports teams for girls athletics- volleyball and volley tennis. So intense and very competitive!

In this introduction, how do they not mention the fact that you can play the ball off the fence?? They show it a couple of times, but something so important and unique to the sport should be explained.
