that, and because the millionaires of the world, especially the USA, have made a once affordable country side, a haven for the wealthy. I am dual citizenship US and Italy, and as a boy going to Italy since the age of 3, i noticed the transition, and it was pitiful. I am currently fighting the demons of corrupt politicians in my moms village, who by fraud took my family home, a beautiful palazzo, and are doing nothing with it. The current administration is trying, but not hard enough. my family purchased the palazzo in 1736, but it was built over 1000 years ago. The memories alone are strong and amazing, and I have ideas for its future. The story is a tad long, but its a nightmare of every malevolent words you can think of that occurred to me, and my deceased mamma.

@@rosariorositani5961 Wow, I had forgotten about this property I commented on 2 years ago. The asking price was reduced to 560,000 Euro since then and it looks like it is still available.. It is a shame that foreigners often cause pricing to skyrocket. I am an American living in Hungary. Because I could afford a property in Hungary with my modest pension. Thanks for commenting.

Recently divorced after 27 years of marriage My ex wife is relocating to Tennessee and I may remain in Connecticut, 55 minutes outside of NYC, or buy a studio in NYC, which are cheap and if I cant regain possession of the palazzo, I will buy on my own, a fairly cheap farmhouse with olive trees, enough to produce olive oil. Why Hungary? It is a beautiful country, with amazing people. Thank you for responding. Now back to my search.

I moved to Hungary because property is much cheaper in most (but not all) places in Eastern Europe as long as you stay out of the big cities and holiday areas (Lake Balaton) here in Hungary. I am retired on a fixed small pension. I bought a livable fixer upper in a small village in South West Hungary 8 years ago for the equivalent of $24 thousand USD. It is an old farm house from around 1890 I am told and with a barn and 4200m2 land. I have made some repairs and renovation to the property but there is still much to do. Hungary is a nice country with friendly people and a lower cost of living than America and Western Europe.
