Subtle connective element that was cut here: at 2:37 Parker and Brett are doing mocking impressions of Ash's accent. Then at 15:46, Ash returns the favor by mocking Brett's "right"

It’s obvious why most of these scenes were edited out of the final cut of the film, however, the scene in which Ripley finds Dallas and Brett cocooned in the alien hive is truly horrifying and should have made the theatrical cut. I realize that it changes the pacing of the final act, so it makes sense why it was cut.

About the famous scene where the Alien's victims are turned into eggs, I don't know the real reason why it was deleted in the first place, but to me it just did not make sense: why turning them into eggs with a facehugger, which would it turn require a host? I'm not against the idea of having multiple ways for the Alien to reproduce, but I think it would have made a lot more sense for the Alien to be able to "impregnate" directly to their victims - I believe this is happening in the book from the film, or at least in one of the early video games from the movie (the one for the Jaguar).
@mikefoley8703 ай бұрын
Because the seeming “illogic” of it, the alien nature, is what makes it so disturbing. And real. The “Queen” and laying eggs made it more familiar and understandable, which makes it less scary. The unknown is far more terrifying. This also makes the Alien able to reproduce alone. A single Alien can make as many more of its kind as it needs/wants depending on the size of the population it is amongst. It doesn’t need another of its species.
@RT-fx2qn21 күн бұрын
It's because Cameron's vision of Aliens differ from Scott's. Giger never design them as a hive creatures, and queen was never a part of their reproduction. Following original vision, I, personally think that calling the facehugger incubators “eggs” is a bit inconsistent - it gives the impression that something could have laid them. What if, instead of classifying them as something typically biological, we aligned them more closely with a flora, a fungal structure? It seems more logical that the “resin” grows like mycelium, transforming or assimilating organic remnants, and that the “eggs” simply bloom from the newly formed organism - like flower buds. After all, the way the “eggs” open resembles flowers unfolding more than a classic hatching. In this perspective, the process of mutating an organism into an “egg” becomes more comprehensible, as it resembles a form of transformation rather than literally turning a dude into an egg - which, let’s be honest, sounds a bit absurd.

@@RT-fx2qn I get the idea, but this seems extra convoluted to me. In that regard, the idea of spores infecting humans, as in Convenent, looks a lot more "sensible" to me than the whole cycle Scott had in mind in the first place.
@RT-fx2qn9 күн бұрын
@@juetroll I get what you’re saying, but Giger’s original vision had a very different, darker tone. He wanted to portray the Aliens not just as hostile organisms but as something almost ritualistic, part of a cycle of birth and death. Scott may have struggled to fully introduce this in the first film, or maybe he wasn’t entirely sure how to approach it. But this concept aligns much more with the eerie, organic aesthetic of Giger’s work. In that sense, it goes beyond just infection - it’s closer to cosmic horror or an eldritch manifestation. And considering we still don’t know the true origins of the Xenomorphs or the black goo, the mystery makes it so much more interesting.

The scene on wardroom starting at 13:03. An almost three minute scene, one camera and one take. And pure tension.

They should put the scenes back in the movie.But I never understood how they were allowed to smoke on a spaceship! Or have a cat.Buts the movies, they can get away with anything. "Have you ever slept with Ash?"-I wasnt expecting that question! Neither was Lambert!

Veronica Cartwright sure got cut out of a lot, but she’s really great
@avishalom2000lm3 ай бұрын
The "Did you sleep with Ash?" scene is indicative of a subplot running through the background of the Alien universe: Ridley Scott wanted to leave it open as to whether mixed gender crews were totally celibate or were 'pairing up' for the duration of long interstellar voyages. One early test scene involved Ripley and Dallas having sex in the shuttle (with an actor other than Tom Skerritt). The novelization of "Aliens" made it explicit that Ripley and Dallas were partners. It also shows up in one of the video games based on the Alien franchise. By the time "Alien: Covenant" was made the crew consisted of married couples, but they were colonists looking to settle a planet.

I thought of this scene as Ripley questioning wether Ash is who he says he is.
@leaaronsanchez3 ай бұрын
The director wanted to make real tension between Parker and Ripley so when he hit her for not opening the airlock and when they argue it looks real. And supposedly Dallas and Ripley was lovers, there sex scene on the bridge was removed from the script.

The Ripley scene with the flame thrower - I can imagine Cameron seeing this and saying 'Yes, I'll definitely use that idea for Aliens'.
@Keth4173 ай бұрын
I can see why they cut some of the scenes. Apart from slowing down the narrative, they were also veering into soap opera in space, which is damned more scary than Alien.
