I see you left out some info: Mark the housing on the engine ( where distributor attaches ) to match up with new distributor; this makes it easier to start after install. Keeps cam from being “out-of-time”.

because the old fluid has gotten thick and helps the flaws in the transmission. If new thinner oil is added all the flaws start to show.

I have this exact car lol. Unfortunately, it's an automatic. 😞 Still, really reliable car. I got it for free from my Pastor when I was struggling for wheels, and I'll never forget it. Still, I want to make it a little more spicy. Little tough to find information on upgrading this car out there though. I kinda want to turbo it, but not exactly sure where to start. I know it's more involved than slapping a turbo on it and calling it done though lol. Also planning to upgrade the Suspension to more of a rally-esque spec, with larger wheels and legit rally tires. I also drive on a lot of gravel roads, so it's about time I got some mudflaps for the thing lol. Still, this car you got is pretty darn clean, congrats, and hope you like it! Edit: if you're looking for a good exhaust, I'd recommend a Magnaflow. Mine still sounds as good as the day I installed it, (about 5 years ago) and my milage actually went up by about 4-5 mpg post install. The stock muffler must have been super plugged...

turbo would not be worth it, neither would it be if your car had the manual transmission most likely (after a certain amount of boost). there are other cars out there equipped with engines that go much better with aftermarket turbo setups with which you can actually get a significant increase in power while still running a somewhat reliable setup. for example, with honda engines like the K and B series engines, and even with other mitsubishi engines. With the 4G94 engine (which is in your Lancer) it's not quite as worth it, the engine is just not strong enough and the increase in power would not be worth the financial cost or the cost of reliability. theres a reason it's hard to find information on building these cars, and it's just that they're not commonly built or upgraded and theres not as much knowledge of or aftermarket support for them nowadays, therefore being another reason to avoid running a turbo build. I saw a youtube comment somewhere recently though that said that swapping the stock engine head for a 4g92 dohc mivec head could make the engine a lot more capable and powerful. I'd say to leave the car alone, or to stick with the suspension upgrades if you want, as they're not as risky or expensive, and you will still notice a difference. it will make the car more fun and capable around corners (and maybe you could try offroading lol). I've had my 2002 OZ Rally for about 4 years, and for nearly the past two years I have had negligible issues. It's been a good car to me and I can't complain, recently I have tried working on replacing small suspension components here and there.
@connorbaz5980
@connorbaz5980 Жыл бұрын
@@BlakeGFilms yeah it's definitely in need of more TLC for sure, suspension and steering most of all. Tires, etc. I'm thinking of making it a sort of "Rally Lite" type car. Mudflaps, rally tires, etc. After learning a bit more about this car I definitely won't be doing turbo anything. I'm about to get a '99 VR-4 though (with a '98 wing), so that'll be the performance car that I want to invest in. Also going to get a '97 Dodge 3500 12v for the personal work truck, and a Peterbilt 379 (CAT 3406 hopefully) for the business truck. Between all those vehicles, I'm going to have so much more wrenching I won't be able to invest a lot of time in the ol Lancer. Still probably keep it around though for a solid errand runner. I mean it's been an absolute workhorse for me with extremely minimal maintenance on my part. Fluid changes/top ups, new tires, belt, batteries and new tie rod ends are basically all I've done to it in the last 12-ish years, and it's taken me from Texas to California a few times during the Summer to boot. Still runs incredibly strong, and gets great gas mileage. It still has the original alternator lol, which is admittedly getting a bit weak.

@@connorbaz5980 dang, 12-ish years that's wild. how many miles? Mine is at 111k, transmission does not behave too well. I don't think the fluid has ever been changed and I don't want to risk changing it and speeding up the process of transmission failure. This year I replaced tie rod ends, front shocks and springs as well as front sway bar links. I have front sway bar bushings too but they seem super difficult to reach, that's the next project but other than that I plan on just driving the car until the wheels fall off. lol. i have a few videos up on my channel of the car, I plan on making more content with it soon too. it has a straight pipe exhaust but with the stock cats still in place

I have this same to similar engine. As I was calling for tow service, suddenly it started perfectly, very strong! Runs perfect. Then it did it again tonight, 2 days later... wouldn't start again after I drove it... then 10 minutes later it started right up. I get home shut it off. Tried to start it again right away, wouldn't start at all... no clicking, no noise, nothing.,.. then I go back down 15 minutes later and it started perfectly! What is this? Any thoughts? Thanks!

You don't need to bleed the brakes down in the axle area, you can bleed them right on the master cylinder by removing the old master cylinder and replacing it then replace the brake tubes not tight use a buddy to push on the brake pedal all the way down then tighten up the brake lines then loosen one again pump the brake pedal once then tighten up the lines do this about 5 to 6 times it should do it no mess
