I think relationships are a whole area these sages were not that involved in possibly? Anyone watched couples therapy with Dr Orna. Brilliant. She talks about relationships being a hall of mirrors sometimes. I really think ramesh balsekar comments about the ashes is cruel. You could say its the person who receives the comment who has the issue but surely its both? This is the thing with yoga philosophy etc. It could be suggested as a way of seeing it instead of dismissed. It's very invalidating. Then you get the sages saying we don't need to be loved. Only to love and be free. Sorry but we do as a child. I feel very strongly about childcare and how kids are treated. That's not addressed in Advaita as far as I can tell. Neuroscience tells us kids nervous systems get affected by everything. Very good point about research moving things on. I think non duality isn't wrong, it's just not the full picture. As you say Tim just cos it was 1000s years ago we shouldn't be in awe of it.

I wonder about " seek and ye shall find". Aa Simone de beauvoir says " my philosophy must be from life itself". I think its great and useful to ideate if it helps you live your life. We want to know the truth as if its out there. I have had to change my beliefs alot recently because they havent served my health. If i dont put my health first then i wont be here. But i had lots of illness and trauma in my life. Someone else may say they not bothered about their health if they a freedom fighter they msy be prepared to risk it. This talk makes me think of the notion that everyones truth is different.

I think a lot of the issue is that in the west we havent got a strong sense of the divine and devotion. The nothing that yiu are scared of is very scary! The Christian mystics talk about it. But then you need to create at that point. Its not destruction for destruction sake - its to create something new. 0 contains all the numbers. Being nothing is ok! It means you can create. Freedom. Freedom in christ. Jesus says " leave everything follow me" that could be interpreted as " become nothing". Nothing is juat a word. A concept.

Just to add that the " you" that's doing the creating is a kind of melding with the divine. That's what people mean when they say born again in Christ. I think non duality can only be understood and felt as joyful with the concept of the divine. This is from my experience so it is just my opinion so I guess just true for me. It's my story. We need stories! They convey things and seep in to our humanity far more than ideologies.

Im half indian and it came to me why it came from India. Indians do like going to extremes- look at the person with the longest nails in the world! 29 minutes in - i think the " ideas are a bad thing" is about not being individualistic. If you have big extended families living togetjer then yes too many ideas around causes arguments. In the west we argue with our parents and then move out! But there you dont. Alot of people living in one place could have lent itsekf to non duality? Also its all very well the sages sitting around coming up with the theories but i bet it was women looking their dinners and kooking after the kids. Id be interested to know what the sages lifes were like.

The no self as i understand it is about not identifying too much with the self. Its useful sonetimes if you are caught up in suffering. You are stuck to an event that happened. I guess its about not taking things too seriously and dropping stories if thet are not joyful and dont serve you. I play piano amd im proud ( well joyful amd feel at home with it rather than proud). But other things ive done i have to drop or it will destroy me. 26 minutes in - yes i agree and thats where i leave the teaching saying that even the I Am doesnt exist. Ive been into non duality forca year or so. I kinda get it but then i need to get on with my life in terms of looking after my body and enjoying being creative and having fun!

I'm a psychogist! Non duality doesnt speak about early childhood. The ideas of non duality however cool they sound, however someone says its " true", well does that really speak to you where you are? What aboyt people who havent really developed a sense of self? I struggled with it and so did my brother to the extent that he developed schizophrenia( from stressful domineering dad). He always thinks of others, has no opinions. He doesnt knkw what he thinks, as though he isnt there. He is so lovely but struggles with looking after himself. I think Byron Katies the work can be very dangerous for some people because although we may never akways be listened to and seen somethings we need to be listened to if its to do with basic needs.

I’m not sure I 100% agree with the translation of soul for psuche . I tend to think that psuche is another aspect of our existence which can be summed up in the four letter word life. But it’s different than biological life. It’s different than zoe. It’s different than pneumatic/spiritual life, but it doesn’t mean soul, as if it were a bodiless energy Again, I’m going to have to disagree. Pneuma does not mean Spirit. It has the connotation of that in terms of referring to the life of a man, but it is also wind and breath.

Galations 4:24 - "Which things are an allegory." By definition, there can be only one all-inclusive or Absolute Being (Life), in which all relative beings live, move and have their Being. Love is the recognition of our shared Being The abstract (Heaven) called Love by the Psyche (Firmament) can be expressed concretely (Earth) as a smile, hug, etc, thereby uniting Heaven and Earth. Gnosis = Highest common denominator. Religion = lowest common denominator.

My spiritual transformative experience: I had my first experience at the age 21y/o under the blessing of a very experienced, spiritually knowledgeable teacher (Prem Rawat) I started to experience the testimony from others who had similar experiences from June of 1973 and continued listening daily until my peak experience in Sept of 1973. I specifically requested to learn the meditation that was being taught by Prem Rawat. I was invited to hear others and listen to their experiences. I sat and listened with my heart and soul for several hours, and then at a certain amount of time (several hours) the testimony ended. And that's when the spiritual teacher went around to each person, and then while sitting quietly, I remember the teacher coming to me and asked if I wanted this experience of meditation. I answered that I did (yes), upon which the teacher revealed the actions of meditation, to look within myself, beyond the mind energy within, to the divine energy of light and love. Suddenly I felt myself moving through a dark Tunnel (like stated in so many NDE's) None of us were familiar with NDE experiences at that time. I kept traveling quickly through the tunnel and then suddenly a very bright light appeared before my eyes, the light was so bright, sweat was dripping from my face, the light was so, so, beautiful, an overwhelming experience. I was then shown the light with white doves flying from the light and rainbows flowing and expanding from the center of the light too. I know it may sound implausible to many people, but it really happened. Not only did I experience the Light, white doves and rainbows, I felt a deep profound love that enveloped my being in those moments. I am not sure how long I was inside of this dimension but eventually I felt being pulled back through the tunnel, and then greeting my meditation teacher. He sat before and asked me what I had experienced, as I replied with a very full heart of love, the profound love and peace that only comes from God. I said that I experienced complete Awe. I was overwhelmed at the beauty of the light, while I was still swimming in pure love and peace. Peace as in the absence of all general anxiety or angst, depression, anger and hate to a dimension of love and peace. When I stood up to leave the home where I experienced a beautiful overwhelming joy and bliss, where space and time just disappeared. I had two young men escort me to my car, where they stayed with me until they were assured that my feet were once again, solid on the ground and I was safe to drive home. I am 72 as of this post, and I still meditate on the same techniques, the same experience that my soul had so many years ago. a true awakening, which I know is deeply connected to God the infinite.

I was wondering what type of process was responsible for order in the universe, evolution, emergence, life, psyche and soul and whether it can only be either mental or material or both - I guess as the ground of being is mysterious that would be fine. Obviously it can start off as a hybrid of the two or just material - If it was just mental then you are referring to a creative force like a God. People will naturally consider what TYPE of process is at play as these are the types of minds you are dealing with considering this kind of subject matter. You could say I guess that the mental realms required a level of evolutionary and emergent complexity to appear but then people might say you are suggesting that consciousness is the product of a brain (material). I think it will be tricky not to arrive at some material model or at least an hybrid of the two.

But the bee loves to buzz about the nectar it's enjoying at one with the flower. You, as I, can't 'understand 'what Jung calls the mysterium tremendum. The difference between jnana and bhakti. Yet we revert to words like the transcendent and the immanent. The field is energetic and at some juncture, we sit non verbal. In Baraka and Samadhi which has us mute.
