I'll confess: Either I'm a slow learner on this OR I get it. Meaning, this chant sounds and appears like a figurative battle cry / chant. Why? Because if the chant was only about respecting the sport and competition and one's opponent, then why would it be stung so aggressively and looking a lot like an intimidation tactic. That would be an outright lie, but effective battle strategy. All's fair in sports, right? Some here are describing the cultural ploy of the All Blacks as innocent and no big deal and definitely not a "war chant". Sounds like BS. So what it if technically is not a war chant, the Haka here is being chanted in a way like a war chant. Same dog, different fleas. No offense to NZ, the Haka itself is culturally fascinating and impressive, but I haven't come across any people ( from NZ or otherwise knowledgeable ) who seem to be brutally honest about HOW the All Blacks are using their particular Haka. That's the finer point that people seem to be debating across different channels.
