The "card" style key isnt for the newer miatas. It is for the AKE system on the 04-8 models. With this GT feature you wouldn't need anything in your hand to unlock the doors or start the car. The NC2&3 had a more fob shaped key for the AKE system.

You also shouldn't need a lanyard for the card key, because it is meant to stay in your pocket at all times.

Yes, you're right! I didn't realise when I was making the video. As for a lanyard, I like to keep my keys on a carabiner so that I have one set of keys to grab when I leave the house. You wouldn't believe how forgetful I am. 😆

Hey man Hope you are well. My phone mount is still holding solid on my NC thanks to you. The old Credit Card type is what I have on my 2008 NC. Is there a tutorial somewhere of taking the innards and putting them in a new shell? I would like a brand new shell. I know they sell just the shell but no one shows how to take the innards out of the old shell and install them in the new shell. Any ideas?
@TachOnRed
@TachOnRed 2 ай бұрын
Glad to hear the phone holder is doing well! I still had mine in my car too til a few days ago. I removed it because I want to install a different one to test it out and see if it's any good. 😊 As for your key shell opening question, that's got me stumped too. Never opened up the card type keys. My guess is the main body is 2 flat pieces that snap together. No screws. If you remove the physical key, and then use a flat screw driver to pry the thing open, it should come apart. If I were in your position, I'd try find a cheap second hand key on ebay or something to try on. It can be from any Mazda vehicle of that period, and worst case scenario is you break it. But you'll get to see the inside of how it's put together, and you can figure out how to open up your working key fob without damaging it. 😊 👍 Good luck!

Yup still have it. It's been like 2 years since I installed the mount. Hasn't budged at all. I removed it once to paint the dash panel. Then reinstalled it with some double sided tape from work (I'm an auto body and paint tech). Only sad thing is its not sold anymore. I did find a very similar mount by iottie (also sold on Amazon). installed that in the wife's car.

I have a NC1 Grand Touring and my seats have air bags. But you said they aren't hooked up in the NC1 . How do I hook them up so they will work?
@TachOnRed
@TachOnRed 2 ай бұрын
NC1s in some countries and year models may have had side airbags. You can check if yous are connected by seeing if the wiring coupler under the seat has the airbag wiring. Disconnect the big white coupler. Then look at the back side of the part coming out from under the carpet. It looks like a big white block. On the back you'll see a bunch of smaller connectors slotted in the back of different colors. Refer to 13:00 of the video. If you see a yellow connector, then your seat airbags should be connected and live. But if your seat airbags are not there in the car, I don't think it's a simple job. You may need to find the wiring for the steering wheel airbag and tap into that circuit. Then draw out wiring to the seats. But there may be other complications that you'll have to solve along the way like adding resistors etc. Good luck!

Try using some extension wires to connect the heater controls from your passenger side to the driver side. If you have the same problem with your driver seat, it could be a faulty controller. The seat heater controller is built into the seat. So, replacing the seat might be easiest.

lol that "nasty" stuff is called "butyl" and it's a common automotive adhesive. On some cars it's used to seal windows. As you've seen it's commonly used in doors as a seal against the water that enters the door. If you want to buy some try 3M Windo-Weld Round Ribbon Sealer, 08610. P.S. It might not surprise you that food grade butyl is used to make bubble gum! Also, that rubbery material around the outside of the speaker that used to be made of foam is now made of ... butyl.
