What do you do with students that put everything in their mouth? These are definitely great ideas for kids that are safe with their independence, but I just wonder what other options might there be for students to have that same level of independence without the worry of them potentially swallowing things.
@theautismhelper
@theautismhelper 5 сағат бұрын
Great question! I always have a staff monitoring - especially for students who like to put things in their mouths. Additionally, I make sure to include visuals to remind students that we don’t put items in our mouth. I also provide the student with chewlery so that they already have something in their mouth and it helps the urge. Finally, I make sure to give tasks that are safe for students with this need so that there is never a risk for swallowing or choking. Hope this helps! amzn.to/3B9tcjc

Just share the potato head! Or print one and the parts, if you want. You could also do this with the game Cooties.

if your centers are only less than 10 minutes, what do you fill the day with??? I'm a new teacher in a self contained autism K-2 classroom, and I inherited a disaster. I was given no time before the school year to set up my classroom or go through appropriate curriculum, and no time since because of constant meetings. It's a quagmire. Be that as it may, I'm finding that I've got 30-60 minutes of time that is supposed to be blocked for literacy AND for math, but my kiddos can't sit for 15 minutes, nor can they sustain that kind of rigor for that long a block. What do you suggest?
@theautismhelper
@theautismhelper 13 күн бұрын
Instruction time is filled with direct instruction and small group instruction for core subjects! I'd start by grouping your students into small, manageable groups for small group instruction and start adding in short activities and building stamina. Don't under estimate morning meeting, math meetings, and language arts meetings - those could be great openers for your small groups and break things up.

each level is $60. Each subject for each level would be HUNDREDS of dollars.
@theautismhelper
@theautismhelper 13 күн бұрын
Yes, each level costs $60 when purchased individually. However, we offer bundled discounts for our curriculum for educators who wish to purchase several subjects/levels at once. We also have a program called Curriculum Access which is a school-based option that provides access to every subject and ever level of our curriculum. We provide lots of resources on how to approach asking your administration to cover the cost on your behalf. You can learn more here: theautismhelper.com/tah-curriculum-access or you can reach out to [email protected] to learn more.
