They'll be painted up into "Interurban Electric Railway" which was their first home up in Oakland/Alameda in the SF Bay Area, similar red color, but with Pantographs and other specific details.

Any ideas for what to do with an old life like gp38 or an old bachmann f9? I'm looking at these for my first kit bashes because they're borderline worthless. I already have a plan to repower both and most of the parts (a bachmann chassis from a kitbash I bought on eBay) to repower the f9, and I've already started ordering parts for the gp38. I am pretty clueless for detailing them to you know, look like models.
@InterurbanEra13 күн бұрын
Well, they're crude models to be sure, but offer pretty zero risk/stress kitbash fodder. If you want to add detail parts, check out "Details west" and "Detail Associates" listings on ebay to practice adding parts to them. IDK if I'd bother repowering either of those pancake motor powered engines. I'd recommend grabbing an old Athearn "blue box" GP38 an either a Bachmann Plus, MRC, or Stewart F7 to actually enjoy running. All four models can be had for under $50 and will be more enjoyable to kitbash.

@InterurbanEra thx, I guess I'll use them for practice. Which works out well cause I'm new at this.

An unremarkable ordinary hard to access track plan. Would recommend a walkin design with an operation oriented theme. Most track will work fine if one takes the time to carefully lay it. Newbee advice.
@InterurbanEra17 күн бұрын
Why would you say this? Rude.
@AlexanderCraghead17 күн бұрын
How about you actually listen and pay attention before commenting? The layout is specifically for testing power, first and foremost. A different need would make for a different design. This specific track plan design meets that brief. Dismissing something someone else does because the design isn't what YOU want helps nobody.
@Jeremiaha28416 күн бұрын
Not ment to be rude, take it as a comment to improve your layout design skills.
@InterurbanEra9 күн бұрын
@@Jeremiaha284 Something you should always take into account is to ask for consent before offering advice. "Would you like some feedback on your trackplan?" is ALWAYS a much more respectful approach than unsolicited advice. The other thing is that you're assuming this plan is strictly adhered to, which isn't the case. It's just a general guide that I've already drastically changed/improved from the one in this older video. I can handle criticism with good humor, I went through college design school where critiques were BRUTAL, but you have to learn how to critique before you come at someone first, especially someone you don't know in person. Your original comment was worded exceptionally rudely, even if unintentionally so. Practice critiquing on friends who welcome your input and respect your views before going out on the internet and offering unsolicited advice.

The best thing about these Suydam models is that they're relatively affordable! Each of of these was less than $125 per! (this is insanely low for good brass engines)
