It's a shame you feel that way about it. The way I see it, the only people who are buying tickets to see Barry Gibb in concert are fans of the Bee Gees, and so to those fans, a tribute to a Bee Gee who has died would be truly appreciated. Barry did not tout tributes as a big selling point for more tickets - he simply did it as part of his show. I saw Paul McCartney in concert in 2008 and during the show, he sang a song in tribute to John Lennon. He got very emotional, even all these many years later. Again, Paul wasn’t using Lennon as a way to make money - he was sharing a heartfelt moment with all the Beatles fans, who in turn were deeply moved.

This song was tailor made for Robin's beautiful emotion filled voice. I just came over to this post from an amazing, bittersweet performance of Robin singing this in 2010. You could tell he was hurting and weak yet he still gave a spectacular performance that caused tears for many in the comments including me. I do have to say a few things here though. I was a bit taken aback when Barry started to sing this song and I could tell right at the get go it was not meant for his voice. When he yielded over to Robin's stunning performance here from before, I have never felt so proud of and thrilled with what Barry did and the way he did it. That also brought tears to my eyes. Now I have to add the fact that before I watched the 2010 performance of Robin singing a stellar "I Started a Joke", I watched 2 other Robin performances of Barry's "Words". The first one I watched was in 2005, the 2nd was 2010. That song was IMHO NOT made for Robin's voice. I wondered also why he sang it at least twice. I love all 3 of their voices. They each are gorgeous and Andy's too. But they sang lead on the songs that fit their voices best. They ALL had unique and magnificent voices. Not one that made the Bee Gees but all complimented each others in harmony and a special sound that was out of this world. One was NOT better than all the others. Ok I just really felt a need to get that off my chest. Rant over.
