Why doesn't he use a roller to cover all the flat areas with stain or paint in stead of using a small paint brush? Things would go faster using a roller instead of a small brush.

Nice job, pretty structure. I like the covered porch, very practical. I would screen it in as the mosquitoes and black flies plus all their friends go for me, from the West Coast to Ontario. Moss roof is a nice touch. I would add some sort of shutters to cover the windows and a more skookum door (bears). My family has built a number of cabins out here in BC over the past 100 years, from little ones to big, and all have been loved. You are very patient and polite with the rude commenters, much more than I am. Hope your health improves so you can continue with your plans. Cheers

Depends on what is available and their condition. These logs are fresh, peel easily, etc. He does say he's been using fallen trees as well. He's not taking much out of a dense young forest.

I'm sure you could have found enough quality fallen trees to build your cabin without having to fell living trees.

I've been utilizing the fallen ones as well but I strongly prefer the standing ones for a multitude of reasons. Thank you for the comment.

By the time the video gets to 1:09:36 it is more than apparent Mr. 'Backwoods Solicitude' avails himself extensively of product that is NOT conducive to backwoods solitude, including plywood and tools, which are battery reliant. Or how about all those factory made screws? Question: How does one recharge those batteries which are relied upon extensively in the video to construct that 8' x 8' hut? For those not mathematically inclined, 8' x 8'' is 64 sq ft. That's one f**k of a mess made for such a humble sized abode. Whoops, another trifling sum of misery/detail to add to the foot of the account.

Lol, I like the drill with a cold comment. I use the drill for drilling and an impact driver for screws so maybe the sound of that threw you off. Thanks for commenting.

Up until quite late on to your build, I was over whelmed with the excellent work, right up to the 2 layers of TOXIC POISONESS PLASTIC sheeting, that will take 500 years at least to finely rot away, taking with it thousands of small creatures and birds choked to death eating them, I will take all this back if you return in 40 to 50 years and remove every spec of this TOXIC POISON.

This is intended as a shed for storing tools while the main house is built. Unfortunately, he has had some health issues so using it as a cabin pro tem. Also looks like the foundation frame was treated to preserve it. The covered veranda is common in many cabins in Canada, shelters the entrance and makes a useful workspace.

Pine. The diameter ranges from 4" to 8". But you're correct, the vast majority would be around 6"

east of Toronto here, and that's pretty much my dream. In Ontario, there's a slight issue with jacked prices for land, and if you could purchase, to build cabins, you'd have to be in an unorganized township (avoid permits/inspections). Working on it... but it looks like I'd have to win the lottery first. Great job! Just subscribed.
@backwoodssolitude3 ай бұрын
Ya, currently prices are a little out of control but hopefully it gets better soon. Unorganized township is the key to get around that stuff and it'll likely be cheaper land as well. Thanks for watching
