This is a nice program to watch this weekend Thanks!

I attended this program at Crocker museum a few days before it was presented at Davis. Unfortunately neither my husband nor I could understand much of the narration. I had hoped this video might have captioning, as I presume the information would have been illuminating. The music was lovely.

In case anyone missed the thread; an intelligent look into three lives (like Gertrude Stein's, but not)- of women pioneers under the radar- yet in plain sight- in an era of seen and not heard (as I've heard; wasn't there)... though Mrs. Crocker was of the ilk of those who were taken seriously (as, say, Judith Wilbur (of Flood fame), the other fine ladies pressed well forward in the shadows of their men (at least attempted by Adelaide's geezy husband, I learn). The artistry in performance notwithstanding, that these inspired Artistes collaborated to such a special experience is pretty special. Thanks to them all.

The last piece was truly horrifying in a unique way. You had to be there to feel the ambience and the bass

Hey, I hope this actually is a positive commentary. Didn't mean to scare you, of course!? Sorry if that's the case...
@WheretheWillowsGrow8 күн бұрын
@@hannesdufek it’s positive! For me, horror is something that tugs at you existentially than in a scary way

Oh! How could I forget??? If there was any SR- it did EXACTLY as it should (I place myself out of speaker focus for this usually). It was seamlessly imperceptible- as good reinforcement should be(!) Mr FOH did great on that boutique desk, sincerely! I was impressed.

Caught this one real time in situ; enjoyable look into the monks' cells of artistic development which we outside rarely may see (more like never). TNX to UCD Music for the initiative to give it to us. Sincerely. "A quiet intensity? A certain noisy, relaxed quality, maybe? How about a quietly noisy relaxed inten....", to draw upon what they'd do in Wright. Takeaways for me beyond the Vandoren punishing finesse were the printing of the overheads onto the screen; I'm sure it was part of the whole visual melee (itself a la Trent Reznor's "Hurt" RP screenage). I was waiting for them to start animating in some way, sort of as inferred by Keith Haring's little lines around his figures. Laurie Anderson had in a show a projection of a walking street sign (as near schools) on which the figures' legs took to walking, as I recall. I was awaiting their dance routine. Just a mirror ball motor with a thin rod from it sideways would've been a nice touch. The mind can do so much with artistic inspiration, and this stuff did that well. Add a Minarik controller and you can adjust the rise of them by speed. A strobe on each one.... flamethrowers a la Rammstein... you get it. As for intensity, the video gain thing... That penthouse wooden floor makes its own presence in a battle of specular reflection with the Talent. You have better gear than for Redwood Tango's Vientos, I know. That was budget. Had an almost chat with Dean, in hopes to connect him w/some musical folks I know. Mid-sentence got the caesura from the performer who had something to say to him. That was unexpected (and not on the lamp banners outside). Fine. The cloisters of Academe are a fine realm; I went live after UCD. It worked well enough in careering (and conversations) with Messrs Bowie and Hellman at that stratum (even Dad, also from KC). I'll just follow y'all on YT from now on. Giant Steps already evolved into Interstellar Space outside that realm. Still overall- a nice afternoon peek into the workings of Arts- plus some novelty for color. TNX again for the interface that the outside world wouldn't otherwise often see.

If I may... how in character with UCD's positive vibe; yet another person I met remarked on this as I usually do. Nice spread of sources, too. Certainly inspiring after my usual diet of Баби Яр or such. Thanks to all, from out here.

My only real waypoint for BWV 1009 of sonic substance heretofore was a Russian cellist with Berliozine coif- but this one captures that chalumeau sort of quality that the viola has over the violin (whatever the proper term is in violspeak). Very nicely done... 'til the Oblivion transcription- which is superbly so. The masses don't get Piazzolla's take on his own stuff: it becomes arbitrarily some platform of fashion plates in a display of their own ego, when his own take was that the music was to be enjoyed for itself (much as occupying armies will pillage the silver for target practice, entirely ignorant of its value in creative inspiration, these good folks just use the court musicians behind the curtain for a cruise fest, as it were. Tedious. They even TALK over the music. Loudly). Maybe one has to be there to feel this. That Maya transcribed the piece further evinces a connection to the composer's intentions that I think he would dearly approve: the music for the sake of its own richness; something the mirror gazers simply will never get, but that he would smile upon her to know. I will be brash enough to pass this event along to a Mr. Asarnow, who is one of those who appreciates A.P.'s work for its musicality as do you. He plays it for its own sake as well. Thank you for sharing your gift(!)

Fun piece. Had to pinch it. As to your all seeing what you're up to- I'd be happy with concert border for such talent. It was the Forever Tango guy who started the banda in the dark too. I thought that only clavecin students got blindfolded for practice (in my texts).. All respect to the Artists. I very much admire what all of you put into performance, trust me...

but wait- there's more! So much, I missed this week. What I don't miss in this nifty spread is right at the top; those superfluous dancers to music which Piazzolla himself said was for listening, not dancing... (OK, not sure on this piece, but he did indeed express that, and definitely applicable to his Porteños and some others) This is so much better enjoyed sans those fashion plates crashing that L.A. Phil tango thing. UCD again produces these subtle gems..

...an oasis of steady purity within our tumultuous velocity marks such a refreshing break. There's good reason that the Artists maintain a sphere of human spiritual potential amid those who pursue the practical, and those who undertake this endeavor are specially gifted to inspire the rest. Thank you, Crisia et Cie, and as always, thanks to UCD. This visit has been an infusion of life after veritable eons away.

Wow... As the clicks of the jacks and scratches of plectra form the dots on the harpsichord's landscape, so, too, those cello harmonics opened my scope to this instrument as I sought to faithfully portray them in recording a performer whom I was lucky to meet, and to portray them for. The work herein frees them. Happily enough UCD of long ago to not even recognize a box out of which to think, I am still inspired by the dynamism of those who constitute its human energy: limitless thinking undeflected by even the concept of a limit (as there are in typical recording, sadly. Some do their best to select against the full character of instruments). A very nice experience for me, thank you(!)
