That was it? You should have had information about the history of it. Just saying it's a Catholic thing tells me nothing about why it's so essential to be saved. Why should I care? I'm fascinated with this, and now I have more questions than answers.

There is a web page about the Tabula Eliensis on the National Trust website. Since it records the detention without trial of English Catholics by the English Monarchy, the National Trust might have thought it was still too soon to bring up such a sensitive subject.

I was directed to this short film by the Open University as part of my studies. I'd just like to comment that this was a brilliant short film and I really felt inspired by it. It reached me, little old me studying away in Bournemouth at 46 years-old because I can. I am Bess. Thank you.

Why does the NT feel they have to embark on this feminist crusade? Is it because it is now led by a woman? Read Bess's biography - yes, once she became one of the richest women in Britain and had the favour of the Queen, she did some clever manoeuvres but her wealth, position, status and power all came from her husband. The wealth of her 2nd husband (more than twice her age) came from the dissolution of the monasteries and some 'reallocation' of large estates. Is this really something to inspire women today? She was Mary Queen of Scots jailer for 15 years! Her first husband was 13 years old! Her 3rd husband was hugely wealthy and wrote off the previous husband's large debts and conveniently died under suspicious circumstances! She married two of her own children to two of her 4th husband's children. Is it any surprise that she was a target for slander and not regarded by history as a saint! This "we are Bess" NT campaign of modern day fabulous women has nothing to do with the ethos of the NT and the cost should have been used to support the NT through the pandemic and not just planting a few cherry trees in London.

I wonder how they made the thread though
@ginahill5033 жыл бұрын
Normally it was wrapped around a silk thread core, for say "cloth of gold", or "cloth of silver".
@suhani5513 жыл бұрын
@@ginahill503 how would they wrap it around the silk thread?
@ginahill5033 жыл бұрын
@@suhani551 The gold is very thin, in a fine narrow thread, which is flat. The silk is held taut and the gold is wrapped in a continuous band spiraling along the thread. It's very similar to the way a bow string is wrapped, or a piece of millenary wire is wrapped with thread.

I have got to talk to you guys. I use the same looms you do(saurers and drapers) for weaving antennas and impedance controlled cables for high end satellite applications with wire the cloth. I am currently designing a crazy jacquard loom with electromagnetically levitated shuttles and an electromagnetic clutch style heddles. And BLDC tensioners inside the shuttle with wireless communication and machine vision. Also automatic BLDC motor tensioners built into every single strand of the creel for the ultimate level of control.

in Indonesia we also use the gold thread and woven it into cloth that wear during wedding or formal occasion. We called it as Songket. It's usually cost around USD 2500 USD for the pure gold woven fabric.

Thoroughly fabulous and truly brilliant. Inspirational! 🥰. A creative,brave, commandingly fresh new look that powerfully challenging perspectives written by men because a woman bravely refused to roll over. I have always loved Bess. Because when you look beyond these heavily slanderous reports you can see how truly remarkable she was. 💖
