This is unfortunately untrue. I have been friends with his daughter since they moved into my neighborhood in 1987 when I was 9 years old. Between 87 and his death in 1995, I spent a lot of time with the family… day trips and I vacationed with them multiple times. John Bals was a gentle and kind man. He did “have access” to kids (boys and girls) and he was a gentle fatherly figure who NEVER showed any signs of predatory behaviors, despite having an abundance of potential victims at his fingertips. I can’t stand it that he is being smeared after his death when he can’t defend himself. It has severely impacted his children’s lives to hear this and I wish I could erase this false accusation.

Fr. Mike Roebert was an excellent priest while I worked at St. Lucy from 1997 to 2016. He was always completely above board with the kids. There was never any question about his integrity.
