It was a cold evening in Kentucky. I think Zenyatta needed a nice, long and slow warmup before the race that she didn’t get. She was sluggish to get going as a result and got caught in traffic around the final turn. Had she not gotten held up around that turn, she would have won. Had she had a real warm-up, she would have won by more. She should have won and just needed slightly different tactics. Even in defeat, everyone knew she was the best. Still do.

Given how easily Brave Emperor drew away from Poker Face by an easy 4 lengths in the final furling, my guess is Timeform when all is said and done might make this Brave Emperor's highest rating to date given the serious form Poker Face came into the race with in his own right, winning his last 3 starts prior. A 3-race winning streak that started with his beating Flight Plan in the listed Pomfret Stakes at Pontefract in July. Flight Plan himself having been a recent G2 winner at Leopardstown of the G2 Dullingham Park Stakes at a mile on the Irish Champion Stakes undercard. A month later Poker Face won the G3 Prix Quincey over a mile at Deauville beating the filly Gregarina who finished 2nd, with former G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes & G2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein winner The Revenant in 3rd. Poker Face then won the G2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein himself over Arc weekend at Longchamp. Finishing 2nd again for a third time at group level this season was the talented 3YO Isaac Shelby who after winning the G3 Greenham Stakes would run outstanding races himself in finishing 2nd in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains-(French 2000 Guineas), G2 Lennox Stakes at Goodwood, and in the G2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein. In 3rd that day behind Poker Face & Isaac Shelby at Longchamp was Belbek, an Andre Fabre 3YO colt who was no doubt on the up himself in the Daniel Wildenstein, and he would improve on his Prix Daniel Wildenstein 3rd by winning the G3 Prix Perth at Saint-Cloud on his next start. Defeating that day that same proven multiple group stakes winning The Revenant who finished 2nd and finishing 3rd that day was another very talented colt who's continued climbing the right direction this season, the Andre Fabre trained 4YO colt Tribalist, owned by Godolphin, and who had came into the Prix Perth off of 3 straight wins at group level himself, sporting consecutive wins in the G3 Prix Edmond Blanc, G2 Prix Du Muguet, & G3 Prix Bertrand du Breuil when Belbek had his number that day. The winner Brave Emperor came into the race with solid form himself having won the G3 Prix Daphnis in France. He then raced twice in Germany, finishing 2nd in the G2 Oettingen-Renen before winning the G3 Preis der Landeshauptstadt Dusseldorf, which he followed up with today's impressive win at San Sidro over Poker Face by 4 lengths in the G2 Premio Vittorio di Capua. Quality form by Brave Emperor, but if you also factor in the quality some of the horses Poker Face had been beating in the UK & France and factor the ease in which Brave Emperor rocked his craddle for him in this race in Italy, I can't imagine Timeform or anyone else rating this as anything other than Brave Emperor's best performance on a racetrack to date in my humble opinion.

Das war mal wieder ein hervorragender Ritt von Rene Piechulek. Dazu King of Records, der ja eigentlich Pacemaker für Feed the Flame war, für Fantastic Moon ein perfektes Rennen gemacht! Wenn alles normal läuft und der Boden nicht weich wird, kann Fantastic Moon im Arc plaziert laufen oder gewinnen. Auguste Rodin contra Fastastic Moon, das wäre doch mal ein Finish!

This filly keeps improving seemingly with every race, and this win in the G2 Prix Foy marked Place Du Carrousel's first career start racing at 12F/2400F, having race three times previously before this at 10-1/2F/2100M in the G3 Prix Cleopatre, G1 Prix De Diane, & G1 Prix Ganay. This win runs her career record to date to a highly creditable 9-5-2-0. Her win here in the Prix Foy is another performance that continues to frank the form of the G1 Prix Ganay result from back in April, with Prix Ganay winner, Iresine, finishing a narrowly beaten 2nd behind Place Du Carrousel in this race by a neck. Simca Mille's only loss in 4 starts to date this season came in the Prix Ganay when beaten 1-1/4 lengths by today's Prix Foy 2nd, Iresine. His 3 other starts have produced wins in the G2 Prix d'Harcourt, G2 Grand Prix de Chantilly, & G1 Preis von Berlin, and 2022 G1 Champion Stakes winner, Bay Bridge, since his 3rd place finish in the Prix Ganay back in April has since posted a 2nd behind Luxembourg beaten a 1/2 length in the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup in Ireland and a day prior to this race won the G3 September Stakes over 12F/2400M on the all-weather track at Kempton in the UK.
