Absolutely amazing, particularly when you look at how the USA administration treats the Mexico/USA border nowadays. The big controversy right now (Late January 2024) between unauthorized crossings into Texas, the barbed wire, the removal of it, the disagreement between state and Federal (Republican/Democrat) about "processing" people crossing illegally and the fight to stop them entering at all, is an Orwellian contrast to what's going on here. It's bizarre....

I've been to that place..in Stanstead, Quebec..I came by bike from Granby and cross to Vermont. A very nice place.

Wow - I never considered how policed that the border would be. I cross borders on a regular basis and the only time I notice is when the sign posts are no longer in English, there is no policing. In fact a lot of cross border trade in my part of the world is done depending on fuel costs - it can be cheaper for either side to fuel up crossing the border. There are no restrictions.

Surely there should be some kind of system set up whereby people can apply to be eligible to cross this particular border without being checked. Apply, they do a background check you can some kind of card or stamp in your passport. It's not giving people impunity to cross any US/Canada border, but just a particular stretch due to the location of their home.

I always thought that there was a no man's land on the border, a neutral zone. And surely, residents who cross the street for non-profit reasons should be allowed.

Living in an island nation (NZ), I've always found borders interesting. I was visiting family in Canada many years ago and we were driving south - we go around a bend in the road and there's the US border! Something I could never experience at home.

I've seen videos similar to this but I'm still confused to what respect people have to dance around the border. I'm pretty sure there's like permits in buildings but surely you can drive on both sides of the road as long as you don't fuck around

I'm sure more than one guy had to go across the border to see his girlfriend, and having the guy asking questions on why he has to go everyday to see his girlfriend, would get anyone annoyed. " Where are you transporting those roses? That's suspicious, those roses are now confiscated, you just wanna make up an excuse to go to Canada, that's unacceptable!!!". I think that guy was the one who started all that violence against custom border agents, I would be pissed having to smuggle just to see my girlfriend and this dude chasing me.
