I know this is very late but those headbolts are prone to breaking they were replaced with updated torque to yield bolts with e torx. If anyone has them there is a procedure from bmw to install the updated bolts without needing to do a whole head gasket job

Did you unbolt the wishbone bushings from the chassis to lower the front subframe for the right side? I think it is neccesary right? Another option could be unbolt the right engine mount bracket while you maintain the engine lifted from the ac compressor with the piece of wood…

Thank you!! I will post a quick follow up on the dash. I ended up sanding it down and re-clearing it. The texture is much better, but I still have some cracks. The texture cracks, erghhh!!! I put the dash out in the sun to see how it would respond and I noted some cracks. I filled them with super glue and baking soda. I painted and re-cleared the dash. It still looks much better than it originally looked, but the easiest solution is a dash cover. I will say that my dash looks more custom? So that is sort of cool. Yes, that rear parcel needs to be done asap!!! Thanks for watching!!!

Honestly- i think the dash repair is much more difficult than the cowl repair. I’m lucky that my dash isn’t cracked but I’m always scared my kids are going to break it 😂 - they like to put their feet in it 😵‍💫 If the dash result isn’t to your liking- you could also cover it with one of those plastic caps or perhaps wrap it with some fabric 🤷🏻‍♂️. I'd like to think so. While my engine was low mileage, at least for a 20-year-old car, it was evident that oil change intervals were not closely followed. My BMW tech friend could tell by the smell of the oil and the coating leftover within the valve cover. As a whole, I believe the product worked. Like many have indicated, and if I could go back in time, I would have made this more scientific. I think I will revisit this idea soon. Thanks for watching! -Tom

Hey! Thanks for watching and dropping a comment. I cut out the affected area this weekend. What a scary yet exciting process. I just posted my dashboard removal video today. That was not fun, lol. I am currently working on prepping the donor piece and hope to have it welded into the car this weekend. Great question on how it happened. Here is my hypothesis: the car sat exposed in LA for six year. During that time, I imagine leaves and debris gathered in this exact area along with rain. I believe that was the culprit for the rot though I never saw it because someone had bondo'd the area and it wasn't until about eight years later did I begin see the issue. Not to worry, we got this! LMK if you have any questions or need any specific photos or videos. Thanks again! -Tom

@@robpalmer2822 That's awesome!!!! I cannot wait to hear more about this. Welding is so much fun. Yeah, my car sat for years and the damage was covered up so I never knew about it until the Bondo began failing. I finally looked at it, poked a hole in it with a screwdriver, and thought, "well, now I have to really fix this!" I am so glad I did. It is a rewarding project and you are going to love your car even more afterwards. Keep wrenching and welding and let me know how you're doing with the project. Dude! Definitely do it right. I cut into my 912 and 300tdi for some rust repair. It’s a bit daunting but after a while it’s a cool skill to have. Rust repair kinda sucks that’s why I knew that I wanted a rust free 325is. Don’t sell the car for a Porsche- the Porsche tax is outrageous and after a while I was scared to park it where I couldn’t see it. 😢 Word of caution when it comes to welding. Don’t weld galvanized metal cause the fumes can be lethal- so make sure you prep the metal correctly. Not sure what gauge metal the e30 is (maybe 18-20gauge) - so get some sheetmetal and practice your welding before welding the car. The M20 sounds badass. And if I may mention- that it’s awesome that your lady likes cars. It definitely makes it much easier to stay motivated.

Hey! Thanks for commenting. It means a lot. One of the favorite aspects of my channel is community. I appreciate every one of you who comments and gives advice. It means a lot. Yes, I read about galvanized steel, terrifying!!! I also learned that cleaning parts with brake chlorinated brake cleaner before welding is incredibly dangerous, too. When I removed the dash (video to upload soon), I thought, that's it, I am going to sell the car, but I can't. I picked up some 22-gauge steel to practice on. Igor from CaTuned gave me some advice on where to cut. That is where I got the spare lower windshield cowl piece from. I am excited to learn the welding process and to repair this issue correctly. I feel like this is the next natural evolution in my channel. I still lust for a 997 though I still really enjoy the e30. It is just a fun car that drive hard, and it keeps asking for more. So hear me out for those that are still on the fence. I drive a 2006 H3 Hummer. Bought it in 2014, 67+ thousand miles to start when I purchased her. 2024, now 269+ thousand miles. I've had issues but nothing major. The rear seal was replaced as well as the front seal where the harmonic balancer is. I started having lifter noise on start up to rattling noise. They told me I need a new timing chain. Went to get that replaced and they said it was not worth it because of slug everywhere. Mind you I did oil changes but I'll be honest. It wasn't always on time! But look at the miles and condition of the vehicle. I took care of her. Plus I don't know what the person before me did before I got her. I know I was able to get almost 300+ thousand miles out of her. Nevertheless I saved for a new engine. Which was not as much as I assumed. Less than 3000 dollars. Anyways she started acting like she wanted to cut off and I was like damn she's done now. So I bought a second vehicle trying to save the hummer. I randomly watched a video on liquid moly and other oils like royal purple. And I stumbled on engine flush. I said before I replace my engine let me try this first. Oh I almost forgot the check engine light was on. Code basically said my engine was toast. OK back to the story. I put the engine flush in and right away less than 1min the check engine light went off and the engine Immediately ran like It use to. I was mind-blown 😮. I let it idle for 30 minutes instead of 10 to 15mins. My next oil change I will do another liquid moly flush to make sure I get the rest of whatever is left over. Now I officially have She-Hulk back and I can drive my new vehicle less. It works and I would tell anyone if you get a new aka used vehicle that was previously owned. Do a liquid moly engine flush to be on the safe side! This stuff works 💪🏿. I wanted to do the BG engine flush kit but too expensive for the flush and rinse and two additives. It's close to 300.00 on Amazon. So if you don't have the funds for BG. 15 bucks liquid moly will do the do as well. Nevertheless LIQUID MOLY WORKS 💪🏿
