The composer does the spotting session not the music editor. The music editor will take notes in the spotting session but the spotting session is probably the most intimate moment between the composer and the director
@STMaloPR

that’s exactly what I just said haha the music editor takes the actual notes but the spotting session, the actual connection on where music is placed and why is the conversation between the composer and the director. And yes for most people starting out they will do everything. But it it’s important to remind those young people just starting their career that when a director comes to us as composers, they are like a warrior who has gone thru an enormous battlefield and it is our job as composers to remind them that what what they are fighting for is worth it. I think one of the things which always is forgotten in music class, is the first thing you have to do as a musician is you have to learn how to listen.

How do these piano sounds compare with the Stage models YC 88 or CP 88
@PeteCalandra
@PeteCalandra 13 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment. The Montage has more sample ram and these pianos have more velocity layers than the CP or YC. I own different versions of all 3 instruments and for live playing, the YC and CP pianos sound very good thru a good amplification system. The Montage does sound better.

Interesting but hard to watch.with sustained interest. Too much talk is never a good thing in music. As with many of these videos, you cannot actually make good on the title's promise of 'how to write like' Steely Dan. That is nonsense. The whole theory behind the chord structures is for analysts who very often, are not themselves innovative players or writers. Rather, they tend to be teachers. I've managed on my own over the years to learn Steely Dan's chords and that way, at least to me, makes much more sense.

Hi Thanks for watching and for your negative comment. What I would say is that you are in the minority here based on the analytics of this video. If this doesn't float your boat, you could simply just move on. I watch many videos on YT I do not like. I don't personally feel the need to make a negative comment. But hey, if you think that somehow makes you better or you think you will change the way I teach (I have taught successfully in one of the top public music colleges in the USA for the past 12 years plus have an incredibly successful 40 year career in multiple areas of the music industry and knowing the things I teach in this video has greatly helped me), then god bless and good luck with your music.

@@PeteCalandra Thank you for your cordial reply. It was mostly the video's title I object to. Your carreer, which is impressive, does not change that. I suppose I'm not your target audience here. It's just that it's a mystery to me how any theoretical approach to music of Steely Dan's depth could enlighten students and make them feel the magic. There's an unexplainable aspect to all music and it's never addressed in theory videos. You basically say : if you feel superior to me then god bless you. Trust me, I do not.

I don't have any typical way to mix piano and orchestra. Everything is content dependent. I do, however, usually have a gentle dip around 500hz.

Thanks for your content! I'm trying to have a minimal setup and have been deciding between a Montage M, YC88, and Nord State 4. If the Montage M were the only piano in my home (besides a couple of the Refaces, which I love), how would it function as an all around practice piano / sound design instrument? In particular, I noticed when demoing it a Guitar Center that the keys seemed a tad bit more narrow than a regular piano. How do you find the narrowness of the keys? BTW, I'm far from a professional musician and am instead an enthusiastic hobbyist who likes to split his time between jazz/blues/gospel/neo-soul piano and synthesis

Dear Pete, I would like to thank you very much for your series of four demos about the Montage M8x! I live in Germany and had to wait three months from order to delivery of the instrument. I had no opportunity to try it before and test it at a dealer. All the more I was happy to learn the instrument in advance via videos and demos. And I find your demos really excellent. It is not only your expertise and your approach to this instrument but also the heart and soul, that you put into this videos. And this seems to be rather rare. Since my Montage M8x has arrived I am very happy with it - soundwise and regarding the countless possibilities it offers. And for sure I will continue to watch your channel. Best regards, Georg

Thanks for clarifying the concept that these evolution are objects. That makes complete sense and a problem for transcription. I have to wonder if AI could be used to analyze the object, isolate the sounds and transcribe what's heard into a midi file - which could then aid in the scoring to paper process?

This is my opportunity here, listening to say that these £6000 workstation are totally unusable in a live performance vs an arranger keyboard. Just listen to these sounds, they're crap. What song could you name that these super knob pads could fit into. Pitch this against a ketron event or Genos 2. Don't know what the keyboard world is coming to, they're not even keyboard anymore, they're boards. Dear oh dear.

Thanks for watching and commenting. These are factory presets to give you the idea of the power of this keyboard. The programming options, controller options and built in audio interface make this a powerful creation tool. I would tend to disagree with your assessments. I saw Toto with Greg Phillanganes playing this exact keyboard this winter and the sounds were fab. I am friends with their sound man and he said the instrument was very easy to mix. Obviously to each his own, no one is twisting your arm to buy this. If you like an 'arranger keyboard, save some money and get that. I am very happy with this and it works great in my studio. I don't create cover music with it tho. So there is that.

I’ll admit. I’m not sure if this audio was recorded wrong or what, but something definitely “sounds off” here. I own a Montage M too. It’s sounds a whole lot better than this recording. It sounds like the resonance is up too high. Almost giving that clipped distortion sound.

@2ammusik love to own the new montage 88 and the ketron event. They've just put out a major OS update for the Event and this Ketron now sounds a different instrument, but £4500. Does anyone here own a Ketron Event or the latest Montage, especially the 88, I'd specifically like an opinion on the keybed. Great debate though, best wishes all, Quentin

Most of the new orchestral libraries releases are interesting and inspirational but if a composer knows its tools "inside-out" and he can make the most of them, then the fun is in finding solutions using smart ideas and concepts to achieve the "goal". Most of the fun is in the voyage, not on the vehicle used. I for one, compose using "Spitfire's - BBCSO Core" and "EastWest Sounds - Complete Composer Collection Gold Edition". It includes "Symphonic Orchestra Gold", "Symphonic Choirs" among other interesting tools like "Goliath". I don't see myself stop using these old tools in favour of more recent orchestral libraries releases. I also use some other old VSTi Synths tools (that I cannot live without). Thanks for the review and sharing, by the way... nice musical theme.

Hi, This is not a 'new library', it is a repackaging, refresh/update of their symphonic series that came out almost 10 years ago and uses the same samples they recorded then. That being said, use what works. There are sounds from my first really good symphonic library made by Sonic Implants for Gigastudio that are almost 25 years old that I have in Kontakt format that I still use.
