Is the lower second pad set to the same snare but with a truncated top speed for ghost notes? I've noticed you hit that one for them instead of the next one on top.

Have you ever tried a Zendrum? They are great, I used to play on one. Very good sensitivity and control, I’m not sure if any pads match it, but I haven’t played a maschine yet. Don’t have it anymore, considering getting one again, or maybe one of these.

Thanks, I'm so glad you're interested in learning finger drumming! My free Starter Course has a full walkthrough of how to set up a free drum software and all the other details you'd need to know to get started: dragonfingerdrums.com/starter (I use Ableton for making music, but you can use any DAW, all you really need is just a drum emulator software. The Starter Course has a full walkthrough of Steven Slate Drums which is free, but for a paid software I always recommend Addictive Drums, it's what I use the most)

This is cool if you like acoustic drums. I'm personally prefer playing electronic music on pads. Hmm... But thats actually very cool to learn for me. I'm playing in ultimately different style due to piano and sound design background. So cool to see it from a drummers perspective

Hello good afternoon, I know that the korg Nanopad2 is not among those recommended for the fingerdrum modality, but it is the equipment I have, so what is the best distribution of the pads with the drums and cymbals for this 8x2 format, placing them to be played in a vertical position? ?
@DragonFingerDrums
@DragonFingerDrums 10 күн бұрын
That's a tough one, I would actually recommend to use it horizontally like normal, and place my bottom 2 rows in the center, using the pads on the outside for toms and cymbals. It's still best to have a 4x4 grid because it's easier for your hands to reach everything, but it could still work with a 8x2 layout. Here's an example, with both rows of pads labeled from left to right: Top Row: Tom 1, Tom 2, Kick, Snare Rimshot, Side Stick/Percussion, Open Hi-Hat, Crash 1, Crash 2 Bottom Row: Tom 3, Tom 4, Kick, Snare, Closed Hi-Hat, Closed Hi-Hat, Ride, Ride Bell This way you have my entire 3rd row of toms on your non-dominant side, and my entire top row of crash & ride cymbals on your dominant side, with my bottom 2 rows of Kicks, Snares, and Hi-Hats in the center. This is still definitely not ideal but using my system it could work for a while before you get a 4x4 pad controller. If you get my free Starter Course and watch my full pad layout explanation, then this should make more sense to you: dragonfingerdrums.com/starter

Howcum no one sez "maschineh"? It's a German word, and it sounds much hipper than "machine." It puts you in that group of cognoscenti. Just my Zwei Pfennige...two cents. Just for yucks, I'm 64, a flute player and pianist (with a drum kit in the living room), and I just got me a FGDP-50. We'll see how it goes.

Nice vid, I have never bought a pad set before. Its quite interesting to watch, my thoughts are everything becomes muscle member and just flows naturally once you experiment more. My problem would probably be that I have only really finger drummed over the last few years on the edge of my desk, so all my muscle memory is pretty much straight side by side like a piano without the black keys, I would love to see someone arranging a basic straight arrangement with a lot of pads maybe a max of 1" square to see how it plays. I am probably going to look at the market at some point, but see a lot of arrrays of pads out there, one weird spin on my finger drumming is sometimes its on the edge of the front of my laptop, then off the side when I am doing more complex breaks/rythms, so weirdly a couple of segragated units with straight left to right would probably suit my muscle member pretty well. Hopefully I am making some sort of sense and not ranting on too much... haha. anyways great vid and great finger drum skills there, one other side note, I would expect a pad array like that would give me pretty bad carpal tunnel problems when arching over the further away pads, so maybe that is why i finger tap they way i do for now. Greetings from Scotland

Why use acoustic drum sounds on the digital sample pads? Why not to use more interesting sounds?
@DragonFingerDrums
@DragonFingerDrums 15 күн бұрын
I came from a background in acoustic drumming, and I discovered that I could map an entire drum kit onto the pads. So for me, finger drumming has always been a different way to play drum kit, using my fingers instead of playing physical drums with drum sticks. I've used other samples and electronic sounds in the past, but I personally enjoy playing drums on the pads more than anything else. Besides this, I also feel that using pads to play a full drum kit can be a brand new way to make drumming accessible to more people. Right now, anyone who wants to play a drum kit needs plenty of money, space in their home, and the ability to make a LOT of noise. A lot of people can't do this, and using finger drumming solves all of these problems. So my personal focus is on playing and teaching finger drums like it's a brand new way to play a drum kit and be a drummer. Of course, there are lots of great artists who play and teach the pads for chopping samples and making beats and performing electronic songs, which is great too; it's just a different use of the instrument. My personal focus and passion is on solo drumming. I hope this makes sense, and I definitely encourage you to follow your own personal passions and interests, whatever they are!

@DragonFingerDrums
@DragonFingerDrums 17 күн бұрын
I would say it's totally worth it to go ahead and get a Maschine Mikro now! Even the previous MK2 is still great for finger drumming, and with the MK3 the only major change was making the pads larger, so the next version definitely won't make the MK3 obsolete for finger drumming. Go for it!

@DragonFingerDrums
@DragonFingerDrums 19 күн бұрын
The main thing with the SP404 pads is that they aren't as sensitive as the Maschine, so it will be a little more difficult to get a realistic feel when playing. However, you still have 16 pads that are velocity-sensitive, so yes, you can absolutely use it to learn finger drumming with my courses!

I studied basic and intermediate courses (and partly advanced course) and can definitely say that Dragons (and David Fingers Haynes) approach is the the only one fingerdrummers should use. Before this I practiced mirror layout and corresponding technique. The difference is immense! With approach used by Dragon, sound is much more close to real acoustic drums, mainly because of accents, most importantly on hi-hat. I advise anyone not to waist their time on other techniques, go straight with Dragons approach. Even if you can’t afford his courses, simply watch all free videos and get the essentials of his approach and stick to it.
