Pouring water out of a container into the sink. You can grade the weight/size of the container and the amount of fluid in the container. They can measure their progress by how much they fill the pitcher or other type of container.

Do you two know if there is a dip joint replacement surgery? Also, what Biologics do people typically use to curb greater proliferation of their OA symptoms?
@handtherapyacademy8519
@handtherapyacademy8519 5 ай бұрын
usually doctors just fuse the DIP joint with a screw. managing symptoms is mostly just joint preservation and maybe splinting at night to prevent further lateral drifting.

I had a flexor tendon repair for my right thumb on Dec 22. The scar tissue is pretty advanced. I have very limited passive and hardly no active motion. The pain is still lingering. Very weird sensation from the nerve damage. I can not bend at any other joint except the base and the swelling is still present. I can’t grip properly and it’s my dominant hand. My surgery is scheduled for Friday and I won’t be able to see the PT until MONDAY. SO IM SCREWED. What can I do for my self to stay out of the danger zone

This design is OK for a low profile functional brace: It does nothing to maintain/strengthen/stretch the long flexors as you wait for radial n. motor function to return. I prefer dynamic extension that gives the flexors an antagonist to work against. I have videos posted on KZbin as examples.

Can you explain how the words supination and flexion are used interchangeably when thinking of the behavior of the scaphoid? When thinking about wrist ROM flexion and supination are distinctly different - why are they interchangeable in this context? Great video and demonstration, thanks!

It is all about relationships. You referrers want to know who you are not what a marketer is saying. In the professional arena, sometimes someone is a good fit and sometimes not so much.

I use IASTM a lot in my practice, but I am finding that I have pain in my hands and am starting to get cramps sometimes when I use this technique. Wishing they were more ergonomically correct. I am careful with my hand postures and gripping methods, but I still have issues….

I have a question about why is it that the that the doctors will put a splint on your arm before you they put the cast on your arm or leg or whatever that's broken

I have a similar patient. My patient developed diffuse swelling and parenthesis, after DR ORIF. MD then released median nerve, no relief, scs actually got worse. I was really thinking CRPS. Neurologist felt it was a reaction from the nerve block. She is now in going weekly steroid infusions which has helped the swelling and hypersensitivity to the point where I can touch her skin and work with her, but her fingers are incredibly stiff and very painful. Very difficult to stretch and minimal active movement. I’m at a loss. I finally got her into a flexion glove that she is able to wear up to 15 minutes a couple times a day for LLPS. Thinking about custom mobilization splinting vas I am so worried about permanent loss of joint mobility, it’s been 9 weeks. Any suggestions??

Tough pt! My first instinct is neural tension &/or double crush w/ cspine & median nerve @ CT. ULTT? Spurlings test? Apply light traction at cspine supine to see if there is relief? PT consult/eval for cspine (did the MRI reveal stenosis/bulging? Why would they rec fusion)? Detension the SBRN then median/ulnar nerve thru MFR & webbed Ktape for superficial layers? Increase focus proximally. Good luck & do keep us posted! I love case study discussions!

Thank you for the video. I have a wrist injury from lacrosse (10 yrs ago) but have recently seen a physical therapist who believes I have VISI. They recommend dart throwers with light therabands. Are there other exercises I can do to help strengthen my wrist further? Or will other movements cause further damage?
@handtherapyacademy8519
@handtherapyacademy8519 Жыл бұрын
There are a variety of exercises that are safe for VISI. Dart throwers is one of them but I'm hesitant to use it with resistant. I'd make sure your therapist is a certified hand therapist and does more than dabble in hand therapy issues. If they are a CHT, you can be more confident in their judgement. Also, MRI's should be used to diagnose if VISI is suspected.

I really enjoyed this podcast. I just finished with a OTD student on his 1st level II. I tried driving home some of the topics you two covered... Unfortunately, he never got it. I always train a student with the attitude that I'm not training my replacement, nor training a CHT, just trying to get them to be an entry level therapist.

Totally agree. We are just trying to get to competency at the end of 12 weeks. But it's not all up to you. The student needs to be engaged too.
