For me, most of the stories in Asimov magazine are pretty shitty and lazy and now they have woke themes threaded into them. The rare stories that are good are really good, but that is maybe like one story per magazine and sometimes a good story doesn’t happen for months. I’ve noticed they(the editor) seems to pick things that are “trendy” or the “it” themes because some stories are so empty, trope and lazy in terms of writing and the thing that stands out about those stories is the nature or character of the “author” and their background.

I agree with your opinion 100%. I was into dystopian legion and was getting into dystopian wars. Than they put out the 2nd edition for dystopian legion and just never did anything else with it. I am now getting into Planetfall. Did you get into the new dystopian wars by warcradle? They will be releasing lost world exodus which is there version of dystopian legion in ways. They have dystopian age and have tied Wild West exodus, dystopian wars and soon lost world exodus together. They will be releasing firestorm and Planetfall as while. Firestorm rules are in beta testing right now.

I've looked into warcradle's version of dystopian wars and while I like some of what they're doing with the ships and factions I'm terribly put off by the fact they went with a weird dice system instead of the simple tried and tested D6 system from the old rules. I've still got a few fleets from DW, I've got my planetfall terrans a sory's and I've got just about every fleet Spartan had put out for Uncharted seas gathering dust.

No mention of the Foundation series. But, maybe you didn't like it. Dune is probably my favorite SF book. I've read it a few times and see something new every time I read it. Another favorite of mine is Rendezvous with Rama. Also, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Read A Stranger in a Strange Land some time in the late 1960s, so, that's a long time ago. Need to read it again with so many people putting it on their Best SF Book lists. Not sure I'd include it. But, will some day read it again.

Childhoods End is also a long movie. Ran on pbs a while back. Dune has a whole series of political intrigue on Dune. the second Dune movie was six hours long and stayed close to the book unlike the first movie with John Travolta. the Sirens was a paperback on the shelf in the late sixties. I have been through it twice. great graphics for the cover. it is good to see you have a wide range of interest in the SF genre. Try Julian May with his pre-history novels with a psi slant. It's amazing how I thought is was reading "current event writing" in the mid sixties and now that I am older you tell me these stories were written about when I was born. They were still engrossing twenty years after their first publishing date. I am reviewing a lot of my earlier years of reading with audio books now as my eyes get tired easily now. Man have I forgotten most of the plotlines... there's a thousand books to keep up with. thank god for back-up systems. Have you done Ron Hubbards, Battlefield Earth. the book is so much better in detail. the fore-word to the book was written by Hubbard who explained that he paid for the publishing himself so that the editors wouldn't cut his story down to 100k words. Needless to say the story at 200k words remained fleshed out and not the Hollywood pablum that was presented on the movie screen.

I am a long time subscriber and definitely recommend it. Great way to find new authors and ideas. The articles are great as well. There is usually a good book review section and some discussion on science fiction. I currently subscribe tobthe kindle version. $2.99/month from Amazon and it's always there for you. Again - definitely recommend.

I think someone on the reddit put up all the pdfs on a Dropbox. Does suck that I really got into dystopian after Spartan went under as my dad brought into the kickstarter and I said I'd get into it for 2.5. I know we planned on running games for conventions. I had fond memories for uncharted seas as I played it from day one. Best time was when a frigite chained 6s until it blew up a capital ship.
@PoolShedGames
@PoolShedGames 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was really close to jumping into the kickstarter now I'm glad I didn't. I played both Dystopian Wars and Uncharted seas with my father as well and the company folding up kind of out of the blue very much was a shock. As for uncharted seas it was always when the Imperial Human player would toss out the "From Hell's Heart I stab at Thee!" star card when one of his capital ships got destroyed and throw a wrench in the works.

I've been following along with the Starfinder hype. It seems interesting and at the same time I know I wouldn't play it. My regular group is more tech and science savvy than me so I would be called out a lot. I enjoy the comforting chaos that is magic in the olden times. :D Although maybe you can prove me wrong with your vids. Bolt action! goood choice. Actually, for germans without camo you can just skip the camo painting part and exchange it for a very light drybrush of the base color. Works well. And you were on rehab and broke and crawled back to the soft clutch of the gw plastic goodness. Enjoy it mate. Cheers, T. PS. you didn't butcher the name. You nailed it.

I've got a group that's really excited for some starfinder. If I can figure out how best to capture our sessions I'll be giving a shot at uploading them onto the channel here. As to Bolt Action it's a great game though I admit I got into it mostly because I also got into Konflict '47 and an army for one is basically an army for the other lol. Thanks for the input for my Germans. Every time I look at them in their undercoats I just shake my head and move onto a different project. and yes I'd be clean for so long than that sweet sweet gw goodness got me back.

Maybe the old games didn't create new customers? That is the thing with a lot of miniature games. Also the points you mentioned are most probably true as well. Anywho, great to see a another vid from you and hope to see more. Cheers, Tristan.

Good hearing from you Tristan. As to their old games I think maybe they didn't create new customers but I think part of that might have been they weren't really given the chance to before they were left for something else. As to more videos don't worry I've got some things planned. I'm thinking I'll be talking about the new starfinder rpg soon.

Good to see you again, though its sad that its under these circumstances. I was shocked as well but fully agree the Spartan had spread them selves far too thin an seemed to lack focus. Also it didn't help that Spartan Neil had very serious health issues that took him out of the picture for quite a while. DW and FSA are great IPs that probably will get picked up by another company.
@PoolShedGames
@PoolShedGames 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Chancer good hearing from you. Spartan closing their doors at first came out of left field and was sort of like a kick in the guts. But having had time to think about it it makes some sense. I'm hoping that someone picks up the IPs. Like I mentioned I'd be very happy if someone like Warlord games picked up Dystopian Wars and gave it the love it deserves. All in all its a shame because Spartan really was my go to gaming provider at least tabletop wise for the past few years.

All of these titles are great. The iconic Dune would be my favourite, especially with the religious development and the gradual getting rid of computers for human Mentaps etc. It's a sort of Dark Age Universe with feudalism on a Galatic scale. I loved that story. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is also another great choice.

Most of your choices are good. Dune is my favorite out of these. But god i hated Childhood ends. Especially the end. It was interesting in the beginning but the end totally spoiled it to me. +ChancerNW Thanks Chancer, I have to say that playing the Game of Drones fleet is boring too. I do wish that Spartan would play a bit more on the weird science aspect of the fleet. Maybe give us more thing like the Dilation Orbs and other experimental weapons like the particle accelerator.

Nice minis. How do you feel about the fact that they don't sell their minis in single blisters anymore, only in battlegroups like these? Cheers, T.
@PoolShedGames
@PoolShedGames 8 жыл бұрын
+athilith Well I'm of two minds in regards to the way they provide their minis now. On one hand I really like it simply because you get the entire battlegroup in one box which means you don't have to worry about picking up multiple blisters. However, on the other hand it is annoying because there are single ships I'd pick up for my Russians if they were separate but won't because they come in a box with a majority of models I already have. I think they sell individual models on their webstore which is great but a bit of a hassle for me since I live in the states which means dealing with higher shipping costs and figuring out currency exchange rates.
@athilith
@athilith 8 жыл бұрын
+Pool Shed Games Yeah. I know. I used to build my little fleet with one blister in two months but now I don't feel like doing it anymore. The battlegroup boxes would make me get minis I don't necesserely like. Cheers, T:

Good to see you again merc, Good update. I wonder if there would be way to play DW on line with the players directing the moves. Giving commands based on headings and distances with a 3rd person moving the ships and rolling the dice. I like the idea of the how to play DW series.

+ChancerNW It's good to be back sir. I still need to finish up my FSA fleet though sadly it is so I can sell it because I just don't enjoy using them anymore. As for X-wing it looks like a great game that can be played quick and easily enough and the models look pretty good.
