Movie digest makes a small movie in addition to each picture you take, then at the end of day it combines those clips together to make a short movie summary of the day. I never use it. I think the kids and pets mode is optimized for quickly moving subjects. Does things like keeps them in focus as they are running around your back yard. The miniature mode does a time lapse to speed up the movie and messes with depth of field, saturation, etc. to make it look like you are filming stop motion miniatures. It was cool taking movies of the street from a high rise building with cars driving on the street. But a novelty not used much. Things I wish it had was a true time lapse option outside the miniature mode and a panorama option. Also, as you noticed, the wind filter isn’t very good. Unlike modern cameras you cannot get new features via software updates.

The “HS” does not stand for GPS. It stands for “High Sensitivity” which speaks to the sensitivity in low light due to its backlit CMOS sensor. It’s too bad you didn’t add any night-time pictures and videos to your review. I bought the SX220 HS model when it came out which is identical except without the GPS. I think the 230 also came in more colours. It still works great. The only problem I had is the rubber thumb grip on the battery / SD card cover just broke off today. It takes great night pictures. The Handheld night scene lets you take low light images without a tripod by taking three pictures in a row with image stabilization on then combining them to get better quality. Also notable is the 14 times optical zoom, which can also be used with four times digital zoom to give a total of 56 times zoom (although I turned off the digital zoom and instead crop, zoom and scale on my computer later if I need “digital zoom”). I have a picture of a city skyline 11 miles away from across the bay that I zoomed in on without a tripod. It looks great, even with the digital zoom. Can easily see that the lower 80 feet of the buildings were cut off behind the horizon.
@ReelFilm201616 күн бұрын
Hello, thank you for this information. I had no idea that was what the HS stood for. I must have missed that it stood for high sensitivity. I kept trying to work out what HS stood for. I would have totally shot some night images. 😕 Kinda gutted that I no longer have the camera.

On a tripod, manual mode, f 3.1 (lowest this camera has) 15 second exposure, focus at infinity. 2 second delay on shutter to avoid shake when pressing the button.
