Rugby was developed for young British gentlemen, preparing them for leadership roles in the military.

I played 8 tests for the All Blacks in the 1970's. The rules have changed a lot, but you always finished matches covered in railway tracks on your back, as we called them.

As John Lennon said, imagine no religion. Religious beliefs were humanitys first attempt at what we now call science. There are no gods, the world isnt flat. The points of lights in the sky won't crash into the oceans on the last day as they aren't lights, they are suns in our galaxy withy their own planets orbiting them.

Even Joe Rogan, who has the biggest podcast on the planet still struggles to understand some very basic facts. There is a difference between mass and weight. (Make the octagon or whatever it is called bigger, and let some rugby-players in.) I like him because he is an "American" whatever. He gets into all kinds of topics, but his knowledge is based on rumours and Wikipedia. There is nothing wrong with him and it is (almost) always interesting to listen to his podcasts, when he have the manners to know when to shut the fuxx up or/an listen. There is no MMA-fighter who has a chance against a rugby-player if the field is open. 😀

I'm surprised he's so woefully ill informed on this subject. The conflict was never about religion at it's core. Loads of people in the Republican movement with Protestant or non religious. This is a twisted and completely wrong summary of the troubles

Why are people who hate Ireland in Ireland, if they love the English King so much, why don't they move to England and stop causing trouble. It's embarrassing for us REAL Scots, not these self identified 'ulster Scots' who are just Irish for then to associate themselves with us.

Anyone saying rugby is a weak game clearly hasnt played in New zealand lol even the womens team are tough.. 💯 Rucking is when you use your feet to get a ball out of a scrum and stomped with your spiked shoes. Thats what theyre talking about here....

The pillar was a docking station or 'mooring mast" for airships of the old world. Probably blown up to erase that part of history and blamed/credited to the Irish rebels. An ugly big metal needle erected in its place years later. I know which one I'd rather. The demolition video even looks like a propaganda piece at best, a minature model at worst

The problem with this debate is few people seem to accept that the Old IRA weren't the good guys either. The 1916 Rising wasn't justified and neither was the War of Independence. Revolutionary democracy is an evil ideology. So the PIRA wouldn't have been justified even if they only ever shot soldiers. That said I do consider those of the Old IRA and even many of the PIRA during the first couple years of the Troubles to be far less culpable than those from about 1975 onward by which point it should have been clear to everyone that the Provos were ireedeemable as an organization.

The old IRA man saying that the IRA's killings of civilians would prevent the 'union of hearts and minds' that is vital to a united Ireland was so so right. How the hell can all that slaughter produce, even now, unity?

Carson was devoted to Britain, not Ireland. When Northern Ireland was created he fled to the far side of England to live the rest of his life. As a politician he was a disaster who regretted what he had done.

I suppose even the most intellectual of people can get things wrong. The situation in Northern Ireland has nothing to do with Christianity, 'catholic' and 'protestant' are simply tribal identifiers that really mean 'republican' or 'loyalist'

Foolish to think the British Army. was the problem ... they left the north... and it made no difference at all. Remember Northern protestants insurected against the UK ib 1913 &1968. Heck they army were sent in back in 67 as peace keepers.. and Good Friday in EXACLT the same as the Sunningdale agreement the UK Govt was on the right track .. Britain is not interested in keeping NI BUT the Republic has failed to win them over.... need to try harder..

Leadership in the Protestant community was completely lacking in the latter part of the 20th century. Paisley was a bigot and was allowed to shout down every other voice in the Protestant community.

I am absolutely sure that nationalists have no problem tolerating Protestantism. But it tends to come with unionism. And nationalists, I find, have always treated unionism as a sort of mental illness. What Edward Carson said of home rule in 1914 still rings true today: "I say this to my Nationalist fellow-countrymen, and indeed also to the Government, you have never tried to win over Ulster. You have never tried to understand her position."
