I find all this GungHo marine recruitment crap offensive. I've served with people of every branch in our military and in my opinion Americans are all the same.

I retired from the Marine Corps in 2010 and wish I had another life to spend in the Marine Corps. My Oldest 2 sons are Marine Veterans and my only daughter is a Marine in 29 Palms. I respect all branches and all branches have their proud traditions but the Marine Corps in my eyes is special. It gets in your bones and you are never the same person once you earn the title Marine and wear that Eagle Globe and Anchor.

Thinking about thte Marine Corps makes me feel in an odd way. I almost feel a sense of love more than anything else. My dad was a Marine--I havent seen him since 1978, I was 4. He taught me how to do facing maneuvers and how to polish boots the "right way" before I was in kindergarten. Only now that sounds like a fkn Marine. I just want to say that I know why the Marine Corps is specdial....Because my fkn heart tells me so. I couldn't serve in the armed forces, but I pray that I somehow made a differencde in my capacity as a civilian. I cant get inside your heads. But I know things, and Im fucking pround of all of you. God Bless.

My father was a sergeant and squad leader in the 1st Marine Division Korean War. A captured North Korean Colonel reported: my men would tremble at the prospect of facing the United States Marines!

I’m a 73 y.o. Marine parachute rigger/rifleman. I workout 3 days a week, eat healthy, study tactics and love being a Marine. I stay in shape just incase we get in a bind and they call us up. You never know, it could happen. Put me in a hole with my rifle and plenty of ammo and some water. They’ll find me in a pile of brass. SFMF!

I just want to add this man to the list. He isn’t a marine but I think he was one for a day for his bad assery. General “chappie” James jr. Airforce !!! Read about he confronted Qadaffi in libyia when Qadaffi was moving his hands towards his gun. Chappie let him know he’d be leaving dead if he did go for it. There’s a lot to this story but he is a hero we should all know about even you amphibians. Much love to you all

I am 71 years young. My time in The Crotch was my test of being a man. And I met Suzie, C rats, starched covers, clean brass, spit shines and the morning smell of cordite when we torched off our 105, 155, 175 or 8" howitzers.

Once a Marine, Always a Marine!! I can think of one other group with this motto: “once a nurse, always a nurse.” My training was intense, as was my academics. When we are done, we are expected to handle ANYTHING that comes through the door. Mad, Mad respect to US Marines. They make me real proud that they are here, and grateful that they are fighting for us.

As I looked at the stains on the coral, I recalled some of the eloquent phrases of politicians and newsmen about how “gallant” it is for a man to “shed his blood for his country,” and “to give his life’s blood as a sacrifice,” and so on. The words seemed ridiculous. Only the flies benefited.” - Eugene B. Sledge
