Hello, I agree with you that the compass is crap. I keep buying it because there is a special groove in the boat that is designed to accommodate this particular model of compass. Could you please suggest an alternative which is the same shape? I have been through four of these compasses. They corrode internally after a few years. The latest one that I have got doesn’t even swivel properly. The quality has therefore gotten even worse. Hopeless in tropical conditions. I am quite annoyed.

Hey Max... good review. I'm looking for a foil for my 40HP and had been considering both the Stingray and the OzHydrofoil, glad I found this video. Just something I noticed, when you put sealant around the holes you didn't put any IN the holes. Neither the stainless steel nor the alloy is going to be bothered by contact with salt water, the bigger problem is the contact between the stainless and the alloy which will cause galvanic corrosion. It'd be a very good idea to put sealant in the holes and/or on the bolt threads... or even better Tefgel which will both prevent corrosion and act as an anti-seize, should you ever need to remove it.
@MaxTennant
@MaxTennant 11 ай бұрын
Good idea - they are both alloys but different grades. I've not seen any galvanic corrosion issues since, just that the powder coat on the hydrofoil has gone dull.
@SandmannOZ
@SandmannOZ 11 ай бұрын
@@MaxTennant Yeah the two alloys aren't a problem... they're about the same hardness, just that one's plate alloy and the other's cast. It's the stainless steel bolts that cause the problem... they're much harder and in a marine environment they'll "steal" molecules from softer metal. It starts as discolouration (tea staining) and then becomes pitting below the paint. It's the same reason anodes work... they're a softer metal intended to be sacrificial.

Does the main modem (the old one you connect to ZenWiFi) also have to be from Asus and support mesh? I have a D-link router for a sim card. Will ZenWiFi working with it? Asus technical support says no, but somehow I don't believe it ...
@MaxTennant
@MaxTennant 2 жыл бұрын
You just connect that to the WAN port and use it as the internet modem. You then use the Asus setup for your WiFi network. You can't mix mesh products as the WiFi points need to communicate to each other to pass devices between the access points to maintain good signals.

@@MaxTennant Thank you. One more question. If the router on the sim card (2.4 GHz, with a worse network standard and LTE: Downlink 150 Mbps / Uplink 50 Mbps) will work from then on as a modem, and the router will be equipment with better parameters (including 5 GHz), i.e. zenwifi ac cd6 - then Will the signal sent via wifi be analogous to the ac cd6 standard or the worse router (modem)?

Oh someone jumped the queue when IQs were being handed out! If people buy a no-drill product, you can assume that they wanted to avoid permanent modifications to the lower unit. If that product then causes a 4mm gash down to length of the cavitation plate, it hasn't worked as advertised and failed. I guess you're the kind of person who buys a chainsaw to cut vegetables and complains to the cabinet maker when your bench is cut in two? Seriously?

Just out of curiosity, what made you go with this model when your ISP package is 100mbits? Wireless AC routers can do 433mbits. Wireless 6 can do 850mbits on 5ghz network. What i have seen the most important thing in your case if connection quality and not speed. Why not go with 3-4 nodes to increase a coverage and connection speed on driveway? Just curious thats all...Its a premium device if you are planning to utilize those speeds. If not cheaper unit would do just fine

Hey Max, Just want to know how is your experience so far? Did you face any issue regarding the firmware updates that i have come across over a lot of reviews (amazon,reditt etc) which makes this device unstable? Also could you let me know how are boot times, is it faster than orbi 6 which takes 3-5mints roughly? I am hoping you are happy with the range as I have not wired my house so i need to rely on wireless backhaul.
@MaxTennant
@MaxTennant 2 жыл бұрын
I've not had any issues with firmware. The only issue I had is where using the QoS feature, my LifX WiFi smart lights in the house would take a long time to respond. I don't use QoS now. I set mine to auto reboot twice a week, it's a feature in the app. Not sure if I need to, but after one firmware update, it fixed an issue with devices not connecting. But there seems to have been a number of updates since - the app has been updated too. I don't use wireless back haul, so can't comment. I have a lot of devices and want to strongest possible connection. The only thing I would really like is. I have around 40 devices connected to the network, including smart home gadgets. I cannot list the devices in the order of those using the most bandwidth. Google WiFi had this feature. I used it most of the time to locate a device that was taking internet bandwidth OR block a device, so I could kick the kids off the net, get them outside. Overall, I'm still happy with the solution - however, I need to install a mesh system at my father's place, he doesn't need anything this fancy, but I'll look for a solution that has a good app that I can remotely manage everything - the Google app was good for that, so I'll investigate the lower cost Orbi options again.

@@MaxTennant Thanks Max for your detailed feedback. Appreciate your time. I have seen reviews about time it takes to boot up/start when power goes off So wanted to know if you have seen long start up /boot times like Orbi systems take. Happy to know you are happy with the product so far. At the end these are expensive devices and we should be happy investing so much money into it :) Also if you are looking for lower cost options i have seen some Orbi models (752) which are better for max 600 mbps and also support WIFI 6 which i believe also has remote management.

Yes - the connections are stable. But I had to stop using the QOS feature, as it made my smart devices very slow. I also found that it helps to restart the devices weekly, but there is a feature in the app to do that on a timer.
