My first step into MDUUC was to attend an overflow memorial service for Sally Zanussi, a Longs' Drug Store employee, which you conducted. It was at a time when i began a journey away from (fundamentalist) christianity to human secularism with its larger concern for life in the present rather than the hereafter. Thank you for your life of service. - kayla

Rev. Rodney, you ARE a hoot! Well done, and thought-provoking. I appreciate this glimpse into our past though the words of historical persons of considerable theological weight. As a confirmed Universalist -- Jewniversalist, actually -- and as a non-believer in Scripture, I am unlikely to be swayed by illogical argument. But I do enjoy and appreciate learning of our historical genesis. Thank you all.

As someone who has used frequent address changes as an excuse to not vote, I feel like I definitely needed this.

Haven't watched this through yet, but I'm stoked to have the 5th principle come up as the main topic for a sermon!

9:08 - 9:22 "The slippery slope of delusional pride is very, very clear to us. One delusion [...] is to overvalue yourself, but another is to undervalue yourself." I like this thought. In trying to avoid delusions of grandeur, it's tempting to do the exact opposite and delude myself into believing that I'm an abject failure. In reality, my life is neither grand nor abject. It's just another life, like everyone else's. I heard a thought similar to this from Anthony Mills while I was at the Provo Missionary Training Center. He pointed out that pride can be thought of a rejection of Christ's atonement: some people reject the atonement because they think they are too good for it, others reject it because they don't think they are worthy of it.

I think you're on to something! Is it any wonder how the plight of the Water Protectors resonated around the globe? That water was such a profound part of the counterculture novel "Stranger In a Strange Land," and "grok" became a word for a generation? One could go on and on ... . For me, it was canoeing on Lake Chabot, for a period of time, almost a spiritual practice. Thank you so very much for helping to maintain this beautiful tradition in our Beloved Community.
