There are lots of things you can do when you're making your own custom handloads and you know your own situation. 45 ACP is not loaded hot because there are standards for the cartridge and gun, and ammo companies have liability concerns.

A lot of people put down Kimbers. For me, I think they are one of the best 1911s on the market. I got a Kimber 45 about 25 years ago and I put somewhere around 60,000-65,000 rounds through it and never had any problems out of it. It is a stainless custom carry. It's very accurate out to 75-80 yards. I've never shot anything over a +p. Great video and thanks for your intelligence on the ammo rounds you reload....

When you up the pressure on regular ACP brass at around high-end pressures of up to 40,000 PSI even if it's working most 1911's don't have decent chamber support, this is obviously why super brass and 450 SMC with their thicker walls help pressure bulging, consider magnum rated primers, again smaller rifle primers like the 450 SMC use if possible, increased speeds of the slide is sometimes difficult to control with these higher pressures, often out pacing the magazine spring which you'll know, now slide speeds need to be reduced, start with an oversized flat firing pin stop/plate an increased main spring of 26-28 pounds, then a 26-28 pound recoil spring, it's no good shooting a 230 grain round ball down range at over 1400 FPS if it can't recycle reliably, 'YES' a compensator helps further reduce slide speed, which might add a further 1-2 inches on the overall-length of the pistol, 1911's weren't designed to handle these higher pressures, the Colt 1911 ACP was conceived as a 230 grain ACP ball moving at 800-870 FPS and extremely reliable, these higher 'Frankenstein' loads take away the reliability and functionality of this Brown's baby, I have always thought the 45 ACP standard is perfectly adequate in most situations, penetration sectional density can be a little problematic depending, windshields, wet rain coats, barrier penetration, is now been addressed with 45ACP Plus P and better super 45 and 450 SMC's they are the ultimate because they can run almost as reliable as standard 45 ACP pressures with the right springs and firing pin stop/plate, now consider the 'Winchester Magnum 45' with those wonderful 'LAR Grizzly 1911's' on steroids can handle a 230 grain at over 1800 FPS with hand loads and manufactured ammo 1600 FPS now, if LAR Grizzly started up again, then I reckon a lot of peoples peaked interest would be fueled. Good You-Tube podcast much enjoyed and a great sport for many.

I kind of gave up on two 250gr bullet designs for 45 Super / 1911 - the Keith 255gr design and the old school 45 Colt 255 design like the SAECO #955 Mold. I'm interested in hearing about any 250gr bullet design thats great for the 1911. I've concluded the RCBS 45-250, the LBT LFN 250, and the NOE 230grHP-255grFN the absolute winners in reliable feeding for the 1911. I wish I knew of more!

@3.10 it came to 900 fpe. The second load, 215 grains came to around 923 fpe. The 210 load, came at around 930 fpe. Just wanted to add that the 45 Super operates at 28,000 PSI, the 40,000 you mention is 460 Rowland pressures (39,000 PSI).
@stuckcase7775Ай бұрын

@galipan62135 ай бұрын
Thx great info….my 1911 conversions to Super and Rowland are helped A LOT by using an EGW flat bottom firing pin stop, the extra leverage against the slide at the beginning of the firing event gives the chamber that extra mili-second delay and slows down the slide, it helps to go down on the spring pressure needed for the recoil spring, which is good, as the higher springs slam the slide forward harder on the frame….I also use a recoil buffer, like the one from Wilson Combat, not only to help the frame, but as an spy for me, to see just how much force is hitting back in recoil, by watching that I can tell how to adjust the recoil spring rate…..with a muzzle brake, a 20lbs. spring is possible, and it shoots very nice on the hand, just a solid push….without the brake, it may need a 22-24 lbs spring……but the recoil buffer shows much softer slamming into frame…..another thing that’s essential in my opinion, is a Forged slide lock pin of .200” diameter, EGW and Ed Brown have those, all others are .197”, .198” etc…..they give too much slop in the action and hurt the gun frame a barrel more…..hope that helps….

All well and good but the 45ACP was designed to penetrate more at lower velocities. These lower velocities not only are better at shocking / dropping your target but will also prolong the life of your pistol and be less of a problem to unintended targets in the next rooms over. We're always trying to improve things that have been tested for years by armed forces ordnance experts for our troops. This is generslly pointless. If you want severe speed for using hard casts on grizzlies switch to 10mm.
