The intern, contractor, Verses the FTE excuse for interviewing process is a little gaslighting. Contratcors will have more heat and FTE can be let go just as easy. It just socially looks bad when you let go of a FTE to the current employees.

Thanks. I’m currently in project management in a very unrelated field (as in no design) and I’m in the infancy stages of learning UX/UI as a potential career change. The goal right now is to learn and eventually be hired as a designer but it’s interesting to hear that the option to go back into management with design is a possible career path. With you having hiring experience, is having project management experience a strong positive (assuming it’s coupled with a good portfolio) or is it something that doesn’t really move the needle in terms of being hired as an entry level designer?

If you have a background in project management and you want to get your foot in the door in the design world, you could look at some "UX Operations" jobs. That sometimes requires a high level of project management experience. When it comes to design, it's all about the portfolio of work, ability to juggle and manage projects at a high level is a skillset that's required a little bit later when you start leading projects. I love you guys so much, and I am grateful I found your channel. It's very helpful and encouraging. I have just permanently moved to the US for almost two years, and I know my English is still not perfect. However, I am committed to improving myself every day, including my English skills. Thank you for the video where you mentioned that hiring managers don't expect perfect English as long as candidates can clearly communicate. This encouragement means a lot to me and motivates me to keep pushing forward. I am in the early stages of my career in UX design and have been applying for almost three months, sending out applications for nearly 150 jobs. Unfortunately, I haven't received even a screening call. Knowing about the insights from hiring managers is great, but I wonder how to stand out in the initial stages to secure the first call from recruiters. Thank you so much for creating valuable content like this.

"Is your heart in it? Do you want to learn?" I look for this as well in later-stage designers as well. I think it's important in leadership to have a heart of a teacher. The only way to really embody this is to also know where you're great, where you need to improve, and make some efforts to learn ways to play to your strengths and learn and grow where you aren't naturally gifted.

I love when candidates say they don’t know and then *actually* follow up. I find it’s really rare that it happens so I am impressed to see a candidate kept thinking and came up a well thought out response.
