Great video! We wrecked them last weekend when the river was a few feet up. The smallmouth were stacked along the rip rap and very predictable from Williamstown to the dam.

If the saw doesn’t change length… use the saw as a gauge. The inventor failed to acknowledge the 1st question you must ask when problem solving.

Or you could just learn to eyeball length similar to how I learned for telecom tower work. My elbow->middle finger tip is almost exactly 18" and seems to be pretty universal over other guys I've worked with, after some time of using that scale along with the hand-scale of 6" to measure cables n such your brain will start to just look at various paths and see distance which could be useful in many small-scale applications.

Noob... I do it by eye. Comparing the length of cuts to length of bar etc. Always gets it within ¼"

Hard work, utilizing a couple dandy red oaks that fell over months ago from natural events. That’s the way to keep them from rotting away and providing a great fuel source for people. Utilizing quality Stihl chainsaws and Can Am side by side to recover the wood!

Looks like pretty steep hillside. You’re keeping the wood from going to waste and converting the red oak from potential rotting away to providing a much needed heat source to your community.
