alright im doing my interpretation for this one too. think this ones a bit more straightforward than suha. just basically about having shitty parents and trying to detach yourself from it "this is a pill and youve got to take it I wont rest until you take it" Jamie talks about this in his drunk commentary (kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5vLcmV6aahpjcU): "I wrote this song after getting lectured by my dad that I really needed to start taking anti-depressants. But he was a junky so I thought that any advice about taking pills from a junky is kind of stupid advice." "thats a heart that you made thats a heart and the both of you made it thats a heart that you made and I wont rest until I break it" clearly talking about his parents in the first three lines. the last line is describing the destructive nature of his family. the fact its written in the first tense is really irrelevant here. he's saying his parents created him and then proceeded to berate him with their issues and pain. it feels as though they are intentionally breaking the heart that they made. "It's l'histoire de la famille" he's saying this kind of behavior is inherent in his family. "l'histoire de la famille" is french for "the history of the family". to me this is about not just his nuclear family, but his family as a whole. as these self destructive and abusive relationships are passed down from generation to generation. "And I won't rest until I forget about it I won't rest until I don't care I won't rest until I forget about it La La La La La La La" this is Jamie trying to detach himself from the terrible feelings and memories that his family has inflected on him. it's no coincidence that he pronounces "La La La" a lot like "Lie Lie Lie" because it is nearly impossible to detach yourself from something so branded into your trauma. "That's a razor and you will make a threat That's a razor make million billion threats And I won't rest cuz I heard it all before" threatening behavior is a big part of how abusive people control others. "i wont rest" is Jamie telling himself he's not going to give in to their bullshit "My behind is a beehive, there's a buzz in my backside My behind is a beehive and I won't rest while you break my will" this is about how your past ("behind/backside") never really escapes you. his past was volatile like a beehive "Je t'aime the valley Je t'aime the valley OH!!! I am an orphan de la valley" "Je t'aime" is french for "I love". Jamie grew up in Los Angeles (also referred to as "the valley"). He's being sarcastic and saying this line in french to further detach himself from the statement. this is unequivocally confirmed by the line "I am an orphan de la valley". "de la" means "to the" in french. he's going as far as to consider himself an orphan as a means of disowning his upbringing and its negative effect on him im not going to lie. im projecting myself into this a lot. i cant count the amount of times ive tried to do this same thing. escape the pain and suffering inflicted by unstable and neurotic parents. there is often a humor that can be found in it and this is expressed pretty explicitly in these lyrics. your parents really dont define you and its absurd to think that they do

Everything is exactly right When I walk around here drunk every night With an open container from 7-Eleven In St. Ides Heaven I've been out haunting the neighborhood And everybody can see I'm no good When I'm walking out between parked cars With my head full of stars High on amphetamines The moon is a light bulb breaking It'll go around with anyone But it won't come down for anyone You think you know what brings me down That I want those things you could never allow You see me smiling, you think it's a frown Turned upside down 'Cause everyone is a fucking pro And they all got answers from trouble they've known And they all got to say what you should and shouldn't do Though they don't have a clue High on amphetamines The moon is a light bulb breaking It'll go around with anyone But it won't come down for anyone And I won't come down for anyone

This is the one place I can share this so I will. But Elliot smith is just the essence of comfort. He’s literally that warm chai tea latte I drink in the dead of winter, alone in my room, staring at the snow out my window. I was falling for a guy and he played this on vinyl. I know this is all a stereotype but It made me fall in love. I was so happy, with the person I wanted to be with, together during the snow. It didn’t work out and I’m sad. I can never describe that feeling to anyone. this is a great album, gets me in touch with my soft side lol. Elliot smith is perfect for the fall n winter. I love you Elliot, thank you.

While we can all agre on how this song can be about nothing but "brotherly" love between men, I don't believe a conservative would bat an eyelid while listening to this. It is so heartfelt about the sentiment between soldiers (and pretty spot on as real tellings go) to sound completely tame as well.
