major shortcoming of virtually all national constitutions (looking at Kant as well): the commodification of non-human animals non-human animals are persons, not things... non-human animals have dignity, not price... non-human animals have rights... non-human animals are potential victims of murder and theft and slavery, etc.

7:00 So far, it seems like Ms. Ng could spend more time talking with people about these ideas. The abundance of filler words conveys a sense of more reading/writing on the subject than actual discourse with others. I only say this to suggest talking to more people about these ideas, rather than merely interacting through written/typed language.

13:00 From my understanding of “actuality,” I use programming terminology. In Object Oriented Programming (OOP), the basic elements are Objects. Objects are defined by characteristics and their behaviors. This definition is known as the Object’s Class. Class is synonymous with “Idea and notion.” Object is synonymous with actuality. If we use Platonic terms, Classes are Forms, and reality is composed of Objects which are instances of the Class that defines them. I take these concepts to consider older terms with newer concepts. What an object is made out of is a Physical determination, while its purpose is a metaphysical determination. Therefore, I use “what” to refer to physicality and “who” to refer to metaphysicality. For example, your body is WHAT you are, and your mind is WHO you are. For things that have no capacity for self-actualization, they rely on an intelligence to give it purpose. Here, when I refer to intelligence, I include any thing that has the capacity for active manipulation of the environment. In other words, life. DNA and neurons share the same purpose of arranging into patterns to represent “ideas.” A “claw” is an idea encoded within a DNA strand which is realized after conception. A “branch” is an ideas encoded within DNA strand which is realized after germination. This ideas exist as patterned within DNA as much as they exist as patterns within neuronal configurations within a brain. As these ideas are conceptual, they can be instantiated in numerous ways using different physical materials. These inanimate material require life to give them purpose and meaning. A seed is nothing more than a set of purposes waiting to be applied to the environment it is in. Whether or not those ideas are realized, the ideas still exist as a pattern waiting to be decided by physical reality. Just as a single idea can be applied to multiple kinds of materials (idea: cup, materials: wood, glass, gold, your hands); a single material can be applied to multiple ideas (material: rock, idea: projectile, bludgeon, blade, door stop, paper weight, wall, ballistic missile). This is the divine connection between idea and instance. The mind is a sandbox of virtualized reality in which a reiterative and reciprocal process of collecting ideas from reality; creating new ideas in the mind; realizing the new ideas; collecting ideas from the new reality; and repeat… This process has been going on since the dawn of life for billions of years. There are things that Nature created long before humans existed: the aforementioned virtual reality, motors, “capitalism,” economy, language, communication…even government. I began studying Hegel very recently because of a quote that I have been dropping everywhere: “The only thing we learn from history is that we do not learn from history.” - Hegel We have far more history to learn from than Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Epicurus, Hegel, Descartes, and others. The recent history in neuroscience offers us much insight that others before us did not have the benefit of knowing. Until neuroscience, humans could only examine the fractality of Nature in n scales larger than a single mind. We could see how individuals formed relationships; relationships formed tribes; tribes formed towns; towns formed cities, cities formed nations, and nations forming an empire. Now we can go in the other direction and see how “the self” is composed of two hemispherical consciousnesses; hemispherical consciousness is composed of cortical consciousnesses; cortical consciousnesses are composed of ganglial consciousnesses; ganglial consciousnesses are composed of neuronal consciousnesses. These patterns provide a blue print for how humans can organize in the same way 100 BILLION neurons organize. This understanding would have emboldened Plato as he developed “The Republic,” as well as motivated him to define it more explicitly. The kind of representation found in “The Republic,” is a pale imitation of that found in the brain. Unfortunately, all the different areas of academia have no really good method for integration leaving specialists to suffer in myopia. So many different academic subjects share common fundamental concepts that it seem odd that integration has not occurred yet, let alone not even seriously being addressed.

39:30 Not all desires can be attained. That is the purpose of wisdom. Knowledge is merely a representation of what is possible. These are neutral values until those ideas are connected to the lizard brain to give them value. This is the mechanism behind desire. Suffering is the repeatedly unfulfilled desires. So, we have the basis for Man’s suffering in the Book of Genesis. One has to have knowledge of that which is “good” (positive emotional value) and that which is “evil” (negative emotional value) to suffer being in an “evil” state. For instance, if a man gains knowledge of nice cars and believes it is “good” to have one, then he will suffer not having one. This isn’t because that having a nice is is objectively “good,” just that it is “good” from that man’s perspective. If he never learned of nice cars, he would have no way to suffer not having one. Even if he does learn of nice cars, he would also have to consider it “good” before he can suffer not having one. Once knowledge and value assignment has occurred, the only cure for suffering the absence of what you desire is to sacrifice your desire. That’s what we learn from the Jesus story. Sacrifice who you are to free you from the suffering you inflict upon yourself. Our emotions that tie us to physical reality that we cannot control is what drags us to Hell. Our lizard brain does this. As you move away from the lizard brain, your consciousness expands. This expansion is known as wisdom and understanding. The more layers of connections between those things which you have learned about take you further and further away from the physical and more into the metaphysical; the “spirit.” There is suffering in knowledge, and peace in understanding. I haven’t been a Christian for almost two decades, but my studies in neuroscience gave me a different perspective on various philosophies and theologies that give me cause to believe that sages through the ages left intuitions on pages about how the brain and mind work.
