Many, many , many bands of the genre and era drop mid tempo tunes from their live shows in favor of fast or slower tunes. As a fan of all the coney, y&t, Black n blue, kick axe, etc mid tempo album tunes, its nice to see them played live. Often it is when bands play the entire album that they come out. The key to making them work well live, (and if this key is not observed, the reason why bands pull them from the sets ) is because they need to groove. Simpler mid tempo tunes cannot be phoned in. Best practice is to make sure they are in full groove and swing with intent. Sort of a punk ethos. Punk tunes only work when played this way also. And rushing is a vibe killr. so tempo is also part of the key. Better to play it a bit behind the beat/tempo than rush because fans sense when a band is just playing to get to the end of a tune. 90% of legacy bands phone the entire show in. Not saying that is the case with coney, just a side observation regarding mid tempo tunes. drop this session by 3% and it comes across a bit better. was rushed for first several bars then it got more inline. play these mid tempo tunes like its the last tune you'll ever play and the crowd will eat them up every time. Andy's bass for example was right on. Love me some early 80's coney.
