The best officer training would be serve as an enlisted man for several years before advancing to officer training school. As an elisted person you become familiar with how things work. Only enlisted personnel who displayed leadership sklls would go to Officer Training. In officer training you would learn regulations, leadership skills, psychology, communication skills. Having served as an enlisted man enables the officer to better relate to the enlisted personnel they are supervising. I was told Marine Corp has pilots go through training similiar to USMC enlisted personnel. That way, USMC pilots can more effectively work with people on the ground.

The process to apply as an NCO on active duty, OTS and just dealing with slow-leaks at base personnel is enough to drive a person crazy. It is worth it in the end when one is commissioned but,,, A whole new world and a new beginning is in store for the new 2Lt. Attitude is everything.

I always hated OTS but I made myself like it because I had worked so hard to get there. I will always have a special place in my heart for the other people in my flight and for the folks in the Lower flight. They were all great people. Everyone has long since retired and gone on to other things. I only met one guy that was in my lower flight. He was a former Non-Com like me but he was a Missile Maintenance guy. Great people. I hope they are all happy and healthy. It was a wild ride for 26 years that went by way too quickly. Be safe and always check six. It only takes one time. I know but that's life, isn't it. Everyone has a price.

The service was my way out of a terrible environment. I should have never gotten out of the service but I did come back in. I was betrayed by my parents and ruined my momentum. The pay is not worth it but the off duty education opportunities are worth it. However, fields like Security Forces and aircraft maintenance made it almost impossible (almost). It was hard, very hard. But as some very wise Non-Coms told me: It is easier to get a job at 38 than 48. The AF has some great people but it also has some very bad people (just like being a civilian cop does).

Thanks so much for this video! I have a couple of questions- First, does OTS happen year-round, or are there specific times? Second, when you refer to academics, are you talking about things specific to the Air Force...or would I need to brush up on my Algebra 2?

should i do this instead of afrotc if i wanna party in college and be a pilot in the air force?

Here is a revelation. You had better be ready to lead from the front when you get your bars. You had better study, Major Dick Winters and bring forward his experiences as a leader. If you can not do it you do not deserve to be an officer.

why have doctors, lawyers, accountants and engineers have to do this? They are no kids anymore. Then it may not be too demanding a PT program.

My advice: Always, always check six. It may not be a bullet that takes you out.

It's no bad, With Porshe 911 you can get gold. I think you have to reach 1:58 per laps if you want win. I used Porshe 911 with 0 Traction and ASM actived.

How long does it take from the time you submit your package until being accepted?
@DinGYT Жыл бұрын
Depends. There are different stages of acceptance. Acceptance to meet with the board, maybe a week or two after submitting to my FSS. Acceptance to attend OTS, after the board interview I needed a waiver and to meet with the Wing Commander, scheduling that and getting my waiver routed and signed by a General took me a little over a year. Not everyone will need waivers. I know of people who left for OTS 3 months after the board interview. Gotta hope you’re medically cleared quickly. A prior E I knew, had an existing food allergy which had no impact on his ability to serve enlisted but took them 6 months to clear him to commission.

Depends on your instructor. We had to draft a memorandum using AF tongue and quill and got access after a week or 2. Another flight had it day 1 because their instructor wanted coffee lol

Class 00-08 here. Things were definitely more difficult back then.. No internet, no cell phones, no A/C., roaches in dorms, moldy rooms/carpets, and 6 weeks of lockdown. The new recruits have it easy....

Why do some of them wear rank? Do they commission before and then go to ots?
@DinGYT2 жыл бұрын
Great question! Depends on the source of their commission and their qualifications. Many Lawyers, Medical Professionals, and Chaplains go through OTS with rank on.
@entropicnic68922 жыл бұрын
@@DinGYT I see. Do prior enlisted folks get that privilege? Or are we going through ots with fuzzy chests?
@DinGYT2 жыл бұрын
@@entropicnic6892 fuzzy chests in most cases. I was prior E. It’s a unique experience because your peers with rank are often new to service and rely on your experience to get through OTS. At the end of the day we all became better versions of ourselves and slapping that butter bar on was one of the greatest feelings of my life! Congratulations on your selection!
