Super cool conversion, do you have a video on how to wire the socket for charging?

I'd love to do an EV conversion but the price has me out of the market. All these people claiming EVs are bad for the environment or they're inconvenient don't phase me one bit, but when I see $6,000 for a Hyper9 motor and $5000 for batteries I just know it's not for me. I'll keep driving gasoline until it's cheap enough or the parts are so universal that I can find a used EV motor at the junk yard.

I bought a Nissan leaf motor (stronger than hyper 9) for $250 and a Chevy volt battery for $1800. I agree new parts are expensive but it is comparable to performance combustion parts like LS swaps.

Pardon my ignorance but how are you controlling the transmission and is there still a converter? This is really interesting I just dont understand how you made it all work.

Probably a regular auto transmission, once the motor starts spining over 1,500 rpm the trans ingages and shifts like a normal car

@thorodinson3597
@thorodinson3597 21 күн бұрын
@@TDubble0 yes. I have come across Edison’s Logging Truck build before in person, but that was after seeing a 2012 Nissan Leaf EV with the same general type of conversion first. The Nissan was at a swap meet in Victoria BC. It was obviously an at-home conversion, because their solution to dealing with exhaust was to seal off the back half of the cabin from the 2 passengers. They had all these ideas of how they would do it differently, like making it a self-contained unit that was integral to a new rear hatch. They only used a 15hp Honda *industrial* engine, so it always lost a bit of range while driving on the freeway. It did quadruple the range though, and make it possible to safely drive in Alberta when it was -30°c. I desperately want to have one for myself, but the legalized software and hardware locks that prevent charging while driving in newer EVs makes it too expensive.

i might be wrong, but i would rather have an ev-converted classic car, than a modern technology-laced ev car. By driving an ev converted classic cars, I won't have to deal with planned obsolescence by malicious ota updates that would degrade the car performance and battery range, which is annoying.

Hi ,thank you for the free course , I'm on a shoe string budget ,and I'm wondering would any of this work in converting a '52 Ford F100 truck ,to ev ,i think the motor setups look really cool ,and hi tech for a Rat Rod, also by the time i get this truck ready for the hwy,it might be my only option left ,thank you for the info ,in advance,i found a used warp 9 motor on eBay,for 1,900 this is a little out of my budget ,since inflation is so high right now ,thank you ,God bless 🙏!!

For checking the balancing of cells, comparing the voltages of each, isn't it more important to check them at their discharged SOC? By "discharged" I mean at their lowest normal cycle voltage.

@convertingev
@convertingev 5 ай бұрын
The hyper 9 is air cooled since it's an IPMSynRM it runs with less heat. The controller and batteries are liquid cooled with small radiator. I think this one has 7 Tesla model S battery modules and gets probably about 120 miles range.

Great source of information guys! I am highly interested on learning more about tesla modules and other battery brands. I have a 1967 F-250 that I am planning to do the conversion on. Some constructive feedback, if able, a better microphone and no background music during interview would get your videos a much deserved outstanding 11 out of 10 :)

Do you know how to check the thermocouples on the battery packs?
@convertingev
@convertingev 7 ай бұрын
First Gen they are internal. A Google search should help you find the pin out of the BMS plugs on the top of the battery or just use a multimeter and check pins to find the two that don't have cells connected. Then you should be able to compare millivolts across the thermocouple with all the other one in the other modules assuming your pack is all the same Temp. On second Gen they are external and easy to get to and test.

I love me an internal combustion engine, but boy oh boy when age starts to roll up the bill on those it's the most tiring thing. Fix 1 thing in it, find another 2 issues. And possibly ruin something else too! Ev conversion makes a heck of a lot of sense nearing the end of a car's/engine life.
