how about a comment on the year of the boat What is rudder differential what type of boards how do you foil a 2014 model boat find a place with consistent wind and flat water you cannot find anyone to answer these questions other than buy the latest boat maybe 30 k
@camsails Жыл бұрын
Hi, this is a 2021 Exploder AD3 foiling A Class Catamaran. I used to have an Exploder A14 which was retrofitted to foil- not quite as stable as the new boats which are much more modern and upgraded in their design and go much faster. Rudder differential is the difference in lift between the leeward and windward rudder. These are Z boards. Much easier to foil in flat water for sure! Hope that helps.

Fascinating! I’m not clear on which lines you are adjusting constantly. Figure one must be the sheet. What else are you yanking on frequently, please? Thanks so much for this.
@camsails Жыл бұрын
Hi! The sheet that I am constantly adjusting is the main sheet. I also frequently adjust the cunningham/downhaul which is led out to my trapeze on a continuous system.

How often do you adjust the rear stay tension, in between races only i guess ( if needed) Are you allowed to adjust them during a race if you really needed to?
@camsails Жыл бұрын
Hi! We are only allowed to adjust rig tension in between races. If there is a significant change in wind conditions I will change the rig tension.

This was great! Only thing i suggest is a closer mic perhaps another GoPro on your helmet? What are the bottle looking things on either side of the tramp? I make youtube video’s on a little Australian cat called the Maricat 4.3m ( Darren Bundock was Australian champ on one in 1988 and 2009) i am just getting back into sailing at the age of 49 after a 30 year break 😂 My dream is to buy an foiling A Class. Saving money for it now!! ❤ @SteyerOffGrid

That is awesome, just saw Bundy at Acat worlds, he sailed a phenomenal regatta. Glad to hear you are getting back into sailing and excited to see you on an acat soon! Yes will definitely add a mic next time! Those are water bottles I spliced into the hiking strap.

It's wonderful for me, an old guy in his 70s who sailed A-Class from the 1970s to the 1990s, to see a young woman sailing an A. I used to tell female sailors that you didn't have to be built like a Russian Olympic hammer thrower to be able to sail an A, but they didn't believe me. I missed the introduction of foiling, so this video is double great for me.

Thanks! Hobies are super fun boats! I sail the foiling A Class Catamaran singlehanded and I skipper a double handed foiling Nacra 17! Sail fast!

Thanks for the response. I totally support your campaign for the Olympics. Great honor to support the fellow sailor. I really want to sail on the foilers, so far not lucky. It’d be great honor to Join you practice runs. I am happy to assist. I am a good sailer and id like learn from you too.

One of the biggest problems I have with this boat is that I’m relatively large (6’3” 215lbs) so passing under the sail is tricky…tacking a bit of a pain in the ass but gybing gets seriously sketchy pretty fast for me not being able to cross the boat so cleanly

Nacra 20s are super fun! It was not overly windy so probably high teens upwind foiling and low 20s downwind
