Hey, Janessa! I heard you were in town a couple of weeks ago visiting while I was out - haha. Hope you're doing well. God has always saved individuals by His grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). Abraham was a man of faith, but he lived before the Law was ever given (Romans 4). In the Old Law, you would offer sacrifices by faith. It was required under the Old Law by His chosen people. if you had faith in God you would follow His ways. It's not that the blood of bulls and goats could forgive sins (Hebrews 10:4). David understood that these sacrifices were not sufficient (Psalm 40:6-8 with Hebrews 10:5-7). However, he made it clear that he was forgiven (Psalm 32:1, 5 with Romans 4:6-8). So, why sacrifice? For one it all taught His people the gravity of sin. It also looked forward to Christ's sacrifice. It was how one would show their faith in God. As for the Passover. That meal was for the Israelites. It was a reminder of how God saved His people from Egyptian slavery (Exodus 12. See 12:26; 13:8, 14). If a stranger wanted to eat of it they would have to be circumcised (Exodus 12:43-49). However, we're not under the Old Law anymore nor are the majority of us Jewish. God didn't save my family from Egyptian bondage nor do I seek to live with the Israelites under the Old Law (see Galatians and Hebrews). Jesus introduced a new meal (Matthew 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:14-23; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26) tied to a new covenant for all people (Jeremiah 31:31-34; Hebrews 10:14-18). Jesus was a fulfillment of the Passover meal - He is our Passover Lamb (I Corinthians 5:7). This meal, introduced by Jesus, only focused on the unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine (representing His body and blood). I hope this helps out!

Hey one question: how were people saved in the old testament? Also, why do we not do passover as a reminder?

I pray for you. Recently, I visited at Waxahachie. Mark Coulson showed the brethren there what a bag of mealie meal looks like as the church there sends aid to needy brethren in Zimbabwe. We all could follow that example....kinda like the Bible teaches. One of, if not the great book to reference on what Godcwants from us.

Thank you for the note, Bill. Really appreciate your prayers - we know the Lord guides and provides. Take care, brother.
