"The Maniac" is one of the best books of this century. Labitut's other book"When We Cease to Understand the World " is also terrific.

Olivia is a wonderful writer. I have read slmost everything she has written. "The lonely City" certainly touched me. I have always felt like an outsider. My views are unconventional and I do not conform to society's view of beauty. In fact, i am strange looking and people can be cruel. I do so wish people would be less unthinking and aware of there behaviour towards those that are "different." I think loneliness is going to get worse. People are becoming more isolated esp with social media and the neo liberalism ideal since the late 70s.

I've just read Olivia Laing's 'The Lonely City' and thoroughly enjoyed her deep insights into loneliness and how artists have used art to deal with their loneliness. I look forward to reading more books by her.

Everything she says is right, however is like saying Earth is not always flat. Instead of saying Earth is a GLOBE. People like her simply fail to see clearly how sick Capitalism actually is. Albert Einstein wrote about it back in the 40's and was already obvious. Karl Marx also wrote about it and it was already obvious. Jean Jacque Rousseau, Proudhon, Chomsky, etc.... It is not a matter of opinion, it is simply a scientific fact. Business as usual = Sick as usual Shouldn't we aim for a healthy society?

Le sigh. Yeah I would like an east Asian internet essay writer but like there's also they all could be bad. Cathy park hong, this one, Amy chua, ed Young, Jeff Chang and like its like east Asians are under cultured. Like really where's the collective punch up by east asains. She's just like an opportunitistic and also waiting for her image her brand to be com modified for like imperial web3. Like its terrible because like she knows industrialists like she got a spot at a legacy magazine to not write critical analysis of global elite. And like everything is happening and she should recognize that hey is there somebody better for the social cause. Like she rather take up space then pin point exactly why east Asian s didn't have a collective punch up. Is she really interesting. Beyond platform and brand and internet and there are plenty of people who are web3 ready. And this is.

Very valuable insights , thank you Anna. Such a coherent distillation of critical , but in many ways, simple notions, that we have over-complicated and as you say allowed to mask the real 'truth'; behind notions like growth , profit, or progress. I was however discombobulated by the chaotically muddled and almost incoherent interviewer. In kindness, I put it down to nerves-but very distracting , all the same.

bit self defeating this criticism of Surveillance Capitalism or Surveillance in Late Capitalism. Fact that we are using this shit service called KZbin itself shows that we bow and adhere to Surveillance Capitalism. Also these folks very well know that by using a mobile phone and the incoming AI, there is no point discussing the severely (and clear) detrimental consequences. We are but living in a bogus economy of attention with increased state violence and Bureaucracy (the technology).

we spend so much energy, time, video, audio etc etc and overall logistics, just to be able to discuss (feel happy for the moment) about something, that at best is available to a tiny fraction of humanity. Speaking of the real vulnerability, disassociation and LATE capitalism.

The developed world is better described as a plutocracy. The plutocrats define public policy. Everything depends on whether the plutocrats allow progressive policies or not. Otherwise, Sandel will continue dreaming with the exclusion of capitalist short term profiteering from morality.

Without a balance of restoration the present system consumes the support system. Non zero sum requires the abundant restoration of a parallel system.

Capitalism is a powerful mechanism to increase consumption, concentrate resources, and increase information flow. A self reinforcing drive to more consumption. Zero sum.

Did you ever consider the algorithm on KZbin..? Did you ever think that may be, they are in control of the number of views...if you show a low number, it shows that people are not concerned about the issue...so why should you? :) she has said things about google( who own KZbin ) that is not very flattering... to say the least. I totally admire her , she is very brave and very smart.People need to opened their eyes... before its too late...actually, its already too late.

The issue of digital sources of high-dopamine behaviour, and the addictive painful cycles it induces, reminded me of Shoshana Zuboff's talk on surveillance capitalism. The idea there is that data-mining companies have an interest in creating more and more predictable (digital) behaviour patterns in consumers. Addictive behaviours just so happen to be highly predictable. So it seems to me surveillance capitalism is a driving force in increasing addictive behaviour.

right...who do you think controls the views number...? ever thought about it...? she has divulged major things about Google and google owns KZbin... mainstream media is all for big tech, so you don't see her much interview on the mainstream Media...you figure it out. ;) even me typing this, with the words google and KZbin, you can be certain that its going somewhere. No mention of this administrations misinformation and programming though? Even a descrete one...? You cant make people aware to this most assured loss of rights if youre not realizing how ubiquitous the depravity goes. Nor a whisper of the V Pass? My dear....
