I'm guessing it's an Muncie sm465. That is a single countershaft trans with no syncro on the first gear. That's some old stuff right there and hasn't been offered since the 5 speed NV4500. I would say with the issue only acting in first gear that it's more than likely not in a shifter tower but in you engaging cog and first gear. So yay I would say it has seen it's far share of grinding going into first gear

If you have to turn the bike off to get it from forward to reverse then your centrifugal clutch is going bad and the springs to pull back the clutch are broken or weak. Make sure idle is bellow 1600 rpm for the centrifugal to release. Not changing gears when trying to shift is a complex issue that could be in the computer going corrupt. They are not a typical Honda where the shift motor is an electric foot. This unit may use oil pressure. You might have got the best years out of that unit. You must have arms like Hercules.

We’ve got the Tractor Max by Bombardier the step through 2 up seater. & my god, that bike is still going strong since we got it. We absolutely love that bike, we’ve used it everywhere around the farm. Just recently we’ve found that shifting when the motor is running is essential impossible, will not come out of gear with the motor running, so we basically have to shut the bike off to shift it. (Something is wrong, we really don’t know what’s causing it as something in the clutch is worn out) it’s an automatic or manual with the toggle, which is awesome! Just recently we purchased the John Deer 650 Trail Buck and it was sold as not running, checked for spark, tossed a bit of gas in the plug and some in the tank. Boosters on it, and it fired up and is running. Need to tweak the carb so it idles, and figure out why the spark plug ignition coil keeps rattling itself out of the hole… That’s one thing that bugs me is the inaccessibility of the spark plug on these royal engines, and I’m not too sure about the ignition coil on the 650… The Traxtor max we have was able to tow across the yard an International B275 Tractor… so it darn well will pull, a hell of a lot of weight. Let me know if you have any more insight. Love to fix some of the issues on ours.

When I diagnose or rebuild these engines it's either a mbe 900 medium duty ( like a Cummins b series, small displacement and single cylinder head) or mbe 4000 heavy duty(12.7 liter individual cylinder heads and push rod engine). The engines change for emissions, epa 04 and epa 07. But there is no service literature otherwise than 900 or 4000 for that year.

I got a 03 eclipse with a 5 speed manual. Both 3rd and 1st gear have started popping out when the transmission gets warm (operating temp). All the gears work fine when the cars cold and then once it warms up if you shift the gear selector into third, even before releasing the clutch it will pop back into neutral position. Any advice/ideas. I do know the shift linkage on my car is 1,3,5 of one and 2,4,r. I have a friend who had my car and his shift linkage broke so he lost 2nd, and 4th and had it gear selector go to neutral. just trying to figure it out
@ToadHoleOntario
@ToadHoleOntario 6 ай бұрын
Just make sure the linkage isn't worn. It'll be a synchronized transmission so I can't see it being anything less then linkages or your grinding gears real bad wearing out the gears. You said it pops out of gear with no load. (Clutch still disengaging trans) then you haven't got the shifter rod engaging the gear enough for the detent to hold it. Maybe you got a broken detent spring. Eaton trans on our transport trucks don't break detent springs but that is just a car transmission and I have no experience

About 1400hrs and neither have done any more than loose inner door handle. The first door got buckled driving backwards with the door open and it's a metal door and was able to bend it back enough for the door to latch shut. The older 1100 had a plastic door and a cute little window that would slide back. Try bending the slid brackets so it hugs the window tighter

You can easily hold the shifter and it will grind once enough torque pushed cause the small detent and it’s small spring to be over powered. The spring that holds the detent is small. All the eaton transmissions that are out in service everyday you are one of the few idiots with his hand on the shift after a shift. Never hold your hand on the shifter when you on the gas. Oil leaking from the head is bad but there is an oil line on the passenger side that can leak. If the knock seams like it goes away or knocks at a certain rpm, my experience is to drop the oil pan and inspect rods and injection pumps and there rollers close.
