"Supporting" a Fox 3 missile? AIM-54 is FAF isn't it?
@Combatant55 жыл бұрын
Nope! The AIM-54 is not. The missile is guided SARH until the AN/AWG-9 signals the missile to go active. The AIM-120 on the other hand theoretically is, assuming the target is non-maneuvering and flies a perfectly straight line, even altitude, and the same speed. The missile actually receives tracking information (course, speed, altitude) from the launching aircraft and will calculate it's own intercept solution. Thus, it will navigate without your input, but it will only hit if the target does literally nothing.

The Aim-54 as of now is far too unstable, and I’m sure that’s to balance out mp. Just before it hits a target, like 10 miles away, it can bleed off a thousand knots of airspeed in two seconds. Now the Aim-7 on the other hand has received a beautiful update that makes it a very deadly missile. It tracks into the target smooth as silk and does not make any ridiculous maneuvers.

Maybe I haven´t understood targeting procedure in this video. English is not my native language. Is it possible to launch two phoenix shortly one after another hitting two different targets? So as soon as the first phoenix is launched, the radar will automatically lock on to the next target. If this is possible, what commands do I have to give to Jester? Maybe something with TWS?
@Combatant55 жыл бұрын
It is, correct. Jester will automatically use TWS Auto, which will detect and track targets. He'll also identify them as friend, foe, or unknown to help the launch order. After that, get yourself into a firing position and fire repeatedly until you're out of targets or missiles.
@talocan19865 жыл бұрын
hmmm…I´ve done like in the video. I launched two phoenix shortly one after another and both were flying towards the same target. Sure that Jester automatically uses TWS? But once a target is down Jester locks onto the next one, that´s right.
@Combatant55 жыл бұрын
@@talocan1986 no. You'll have to command another STT through the Jester menu or use one of the Pilot Lock On modes. That said, it is possible for two Phoenixes to lock onto the same target after receiving their command to go active. The missile will lock on to the first thing it sees, which could cause that.
@igorkratka5 жыл бұрын
Hi! watched the video a few times but still did not get how you managed to lock 3 targets simultaneously from the pilots seat. In Jester`s comms menu is just Single target option. How to do it? Thank you.
@Combatant55 жыл бұрын
Jester automatically uses the TWS Auto radar mode, which will acquire them automatically. He'll then classify the contacts as Hostile, Ambiguous, Friendly, or Unknown to refine the launch order that the WCS will use when you fire the missiles.
@het61yt5 жыл бұрын
As the pilot turn your tid (bottom screen) from nav mode to tid (mirror) this means your tid will now mirror jesters tid showing you what he is doing with the AWG 9 radar. As unknown contacts show up on the radar with a number to the left of them showing their altitude in 1×10000 feet. (with a half square above them) jester will (slowly) IFF them changing the symbol to a half circle (friendly) or a half diamond (bandit). As the pilot if you now select your phoenix missles a number will appear to the right or the target indicating it's priority in which the targeting computer ( RIO can change priority order) has determined which target to fire at first, then second and so on. When the target flashes it is good launch zone parameters for your missle. Once you fire your missle the number to the left (edit i mean right) changes and indicates the time it will take before your missile will hit the target.
@Confidenta795 жыл бұрын
@@het61yt Very helpful, thanks. Doesn't the altitude number on the left range in the following order: 0 =0-4999, 1=5000-14999, 2=15000-24999 and so on? And you mean the number on the right changes from order number to time for missile to hit, right? (You wrote left).

You can control antenna elevation in TWS, but you have to be in TWS MAN. When you fox a Phoenix it clicks itself into TWS AUTO because the AWG-9 doesn't trust you to support the missile yourself. After splashes or misses, you can go back to manual and steer your antenna again to search. Or ask the pilot how many explosions he saw, if he wasn't too busy reading Facebook while the RIO does all the work. XD

R. Invictus that's actually the 9G 90 line. If the target breaks at 9Gs or is off of your course by 90 degrees, you can put that line on the target and fire and (possibly) hit him. That's my understanding, 9g breaks and 90 degree course differences make it VERY unlikely you'll hit, though. Pk is probably very low.
