JDD is a habitual liar. He book cannot be taken as credible at all. Does 0 research into pagan history, Christian history, religious history, history in general... he even goes as far as inventing definitions and using video game quotes as "statements of fact". Then he proposes what he calls the "Boniface Option". Boniface was a terrorist. I notice Christians always talk ABOUT us pagans, but never TO us. René Noël Théophile Girard was a philosophical anthropologist. Girard has presented his view as being scientifically grounded: "Our theory should be approached, then, as one approaches any scientific hypothesis." Girard's readings of myths and Bible stories-the basis of some of his most important claims-are often tendentious. Girard notes, for example, that the disciples actively turn against Jesus. Girard claims that the Gospels present the Crucifixion as a purely human affair, with no indication of Christ dying for the sins of mankind, a claim contradicted by Mark 10:45 and Matthew 20:28. Girard's writings are metaphysics rather than science. Various anthropologists have contested Girard's claims. Elizabeth Traube, for example, reminds us that there are other ways of making sense of the data that Girard borrows from Evans-Pritchard and company-ways that are more consistent with the practices of the given culture. By applying a one-size-fits-all approach (which tends to be the standard M.O. for Christians), Girard "loses … the ability to tell us anything about cultural products themselves, for the simple reason that he has annihilated the cultures which produced them." Not the best source for you guys to use. As far as him saying pagans caring about victims, well, yeah. Always been that way. There was an ENTIRE LEGAL SYSTEM in Rome FOR THE VICTIMS. EVERY pagan society had legal systems. Wow, you guys do no research for your vids, huh? Just like JDD, you have 0 idea what actual paganism, or antient cultures actually entailed. You are spreading completely false information.

More extratestamental literature? This is how the Bible was written. In a traumatic or violent time, God doesn't step in to help his favored community in any evident way. Then that community's priests write explanations that defend God's power and decisions and place the blame on the people, sometimes including the faction most favored. Tacked on at the end is a promise that if the community will do just what the priests tell them to do, God will return in power and restore or elevate the favored people to dominance. A whole class of authors must do the explaining, because, not only does God never speak for himself, the prophets who receive his divine breath in their heads never write things down themselves. Davidson is an author for our time. I just have one question these days: Where is God's KZbin channel?

The Ethiopian empire was a force of evil that practiced slavery. Slavery was enjoyed by every Ethiopian emperor. The 'prince' never mentions any of Ethiopia's short comings. My ethnic group was literally almost wiped out by the Ethiopian empire. I am saddened by this portraying of Ethiopia. This feeds the illusion of Ethiopian 'we was kingz' narrative. I am actually disgusted.

@ 39:08 about Moses, you mentioned that the Quran doesn't says by the permission of God as the Quran said for Jesus regarding the bird. The Quran doesn't have to say the same thing but when Moses felt fear.. In chapter Taha فَاَوۡجَسَ فِىۡ نَفۡسِهٖ خِيۡفَةً مُّوۡسٰى67 Gid told Moses don't be afraid قُلۡنَا لَا تَخَفۡ اِنَّكَ اَنۡتَ الۡاَعۡلٰى‏68 God told him drop what's in your hand وَاَ لۡقِ مَا فِىۡ يَمِيۡنِكَ تَلۡقَفۡ مَا صَنَعُوۡا‌ ؕاِنَّمَا صَنَعُوۡا كَيۡدُ سٰحِرٍ‌ ؕ وَلَا يُفۡلِحُ السّٰحِرُ حَيۡثُ اَتٰى‏69 So it doesn't have to be say way as with Jesus, still he did what God told him.. Or you can say by the permission of God.....!!!!! Thanks God for Islam ❤

Instead of saying the Quran is reshaping some of the bible stories why not say maybe becase the bible has been corrupted <since you don't have an original bible from the time of Jesus & whatever you have was written by unknown authors) according to many Christian scholars or correcting those stories....??? Fascinating discussion. Thanks to both of you for some thought-provoking reflections. Here are some clarifications on a few points you raised, as well as some other considerations you might want to chew on: It was A. N. Whitehead who said, "All of Western philosophy is a footnote to Plato.” Tertullian is the one who asked, "What has Athens got to do with Jerusalem?" In the Republic, Glaucon describes how the perfectly just man with a reputation for injustice would be crucified, but he doesn't explicitly say that he would be executed for exposing the justice of others. That's an inference we draw from associating the perfectly just man of the Republic with Socrates. Simone Weil took the perfectly just man of the Republic as a prefiguration of Christ. Nietzsche wrote, "Humanity has had to pay dearly for this Athenian having gone to school among the Egyptians (-or among the Jews in Egypt?)." Whether he meant that literally is another matter, though. However, Plato could NOT have been hanging out with the Jews in Alexandria, since the city wasn't founded until 331 BCE, over a decade after his death. Was Plato really absent on Socrates' last day? Phaedo says, "Plato, I think, was sick," but is Phaedo a reliable narrator? One theme of the Phaedo is Socrates' curing his disciples of the disease of misology, which suggests that Plato may be trying to make a deeper point in having Phaedo say that he wasn't well. As for the relationship between Greek philosophy and the New Testament, consider the view of Simone Weil, who wrote, "The Gospels are the last and most marvelous expression of the Greek genius." For her, the Greeks are a kind of Old Testament, doing the spadework to prepare the ground for the gospel. Compare her view to Nietzsche's famous claim that "Christianity is Platonism for the people."

So you removed my comment because i explained why its asinine to be promoting the unscientific language classifications such as Afro-Asiatic, as well as niger-congo and Nilo saharan ?? Even while i shared scientific peer reviewed sources .. and respectfully she aint even a historical linguist, nor is other people that wrote that book with her. Also, their book is not scientifically peer reviewed in any linguistic journal So let me understand this, in one instance we claim to require scientific rigor, and then in the next instance its a "popularity contest" or a "go along to get along" festival So Im confused as to if we are seeking integrity, or are we seeking personality worship here ?

LMAO! Chad won that! In one hand the guy tries to say America is soooooo racist, then in the other he says if you try to succeed and work hard (like himself) you will be able to succeed despite there being racist people. Chad on the other hand says he is aware that there are racist people, however, it's not anything like it was 100 years ago, so don't use racism as an excuse not to work toward success. Racism and racist people are not at the forefront of his (Chad's) thoughts keeping him from doing what he needs to do to be successful. Black, white, hispanic, asian, middle eastern, the formula is standard. Work hard, take responsibility and accountability for yourself and your actions and you will be able to succeed in this country today. Also, I'm glad that the host didn't win office too... We have enough race hustlers in DC as is.

Word of advice, never quote stats without having the sources readily available or without knowing the data and variables involved in the study. Saying you live in the 3rd most racist state, is an enormous claim and it needs to be backed up with real facts and data. How was it determined? Not saying it isn’t true but if you make the claim you need to prove it.

Will Smith should have been arrested and charged with Battery and sent to prison. He has always been a violent person, Verbally arrogant, shooting his mouth off, calling people names, insulting others, passing judgment, lying to people, his wife and getting away with it. He and Hollywood are guilty of assisting him, enabling him and empowering him, in his ways. He is a RACISIT, both in in life and his movies' he has been allowed to attack White people and say nasty, insulting and racial attacks and No consquences...NO talent . If it wasn't for the fact that is is black There is NO WAY he would have gotten away with that, If was white he life , his career and wealth and freedom would have been over, they would have destroyed him. Black people like him, Barack Obama and Whoopi Goldberg, making derogatory and ignorant comments about white people and stating Jewish were not victim's of racism Behaving as if they were victims... ? Placing themselves in the period of slavery. They ARE NOT SALVES . Placing themselves in same position as other who were victims to, HELP THEM GET AWAY WITH RASICTS BEHAVIOR. They know it. Verbally attacking, white Christians, Jewish and others as racists and Yet, that are the actually Racists. We as a society must not allow this to continue and must stop.

Girard called Gans' Generative Anthropology theory effectively a "social contract" theory, which was for Girard (and I agree) a flawed theory because the "No!" of Gans' theory at the foundation of the sign/signified presupposes a memory or presentiment of the very violence that Girard's Fundamental Anthropology theory proposes in the generative victimary mechanism, i.e., the original scapegoat violence. The deferral of violence proposed by Gans, in other words, only takes places AFTER a near-cataclysmic violence as proposed by Girard has already occurred such as to generate a memory, a sign. It should also be remembered that Gans (like Derrida) is a Jew, and Girard a Catholic. Both are, at bottom, apologists for these two respective, opposed, Weltangschauung.
@shannon8052
@shannon8052 Жыл бұрын
Leigh thank you for listening and being willing to flesh things out. Unfortunately I really don't understand what a lot of that really means (except for the social contract part) so you have to break that down into very simple terms. I agree for the most part with Girard too and have my own questions concerning his ideas. Also, I am happy to talk with you about Girard over zoom if you'd like to get your thoughts out on his ideas. Love learning and hearing opinions on this. Your welcome anytime brother. All the best!
@dennisbouvard7623
@dennisbouvard7623 Жыл бұрын
Yes, a "presentiment" of something like that cataclysmic violence is necessary, but for that very reason the violence doesn't have to take place. The originary event issues in a ritual, as must Girard's event, so if the originary hypothesis is a social contract theory so is Girard's. But neither is, since in neither case is the declarative sentence, which is needed to establish an explicit agreement, available. The most important difference is that Gans accounts for violence, while Girard doesn't.
