Try putting a Chinese RED paint down first... then the Glue... then the Gold Leaf The Masters always put RED under the Gold Leaf... it makes it Richer.

Please can you tell us, how to delay the drying time so as to allow us to decide what we really want to do with it on canvas, and if we don't like it we have time to change it, also how to avoid any cracks later on which will cause it to become ugly after some days or weeks or years.

It takes hours to dry so you can remove it and rework it before it will be too dry.

Not very long. I let it dry for a day but it only takes a couple of hours. Similar to the acrylic paint.
