Hugh Jackman had the surgery long before production. They had to put on a mock up of the show in front of the money guys who would be funding it. He had the surgery the day before to remove a a cancer growth on his nose. The doctor told him he couldn't sing for a while or he would probably tear out some of the 80 stitches in his nose . They had someone sing for him but, he decided to sing a part of the last song. He got carried away and sang the whole thing to which he was greeted at the end with blood running down his face and an embarrassing trip back to the doctors but, the show went on
