Any spots you’d recommend fishing for stripers down from the Rio vista bridge. I always fish the north delta and don’t know any spots down from the bridge. Thanks

Certain times of the year anywhere from franks tract up to the rio vista bridge is great. Id look for current breaks and areas that striper can push baitfish.

Gotta ask, why are you using the cheap Okuma SLX reels? On that 50 I can see you clearly have that drag at sunset (33lbs) max. I did use the PCH rods, XH,XXH and XXXH for a couple years. Great price point on the rods no doubt. But after hooking bigger fish there is no comparison to quality (UC, Calstar, Seeker) rail rods.
@DDFishingCo5 күн бұрын
Great question! We have caught 20+ bluefin on these reels with a few over 200lbs. We have had zero issues with these reels so far. If we were targeting fish 250+ lb fish each time, we would upgrade to a reel with higher quality drag system. I would say most of the fish we catch up here are 100-200lbs. With the size line we are using, I don't want to push the drag anymore than it already is.

We get 150-180 ahi here in Hawaii and can crank them in on 130 class reels without issue on double rigged 9/0-10/0 hooks!!! Do you ever troll with skirted lures? The lures we use in Hawaii loooks like crush over there!! check out the ones I use, I show maker on my videos. KC LURES, miracle lures, Tsutomu , j lures just a few locally made!!!

Love this video very helpful and very informative wondering why you didn’t just do everything in epoxy resin instead of using polyester resin . I’ve worked with both and understand using styrene etc . Thanks again for taking the time to help others . From Australia 😊 Also what prop did you end up using. 4 blade or 3blade 17 or 18 and what pitch Thanks again
@DDFishingCo18 күн бұрын
Thanks! We ended up doing the rest in Poly for $ purposes. The Epoxy is great, however its pricey. That and also how we finished the project. In between coats when we would sand. We would use gel coat to cure the surface since you need a curing agent to seal the poly. We liked using gel coat since its sandable and its easy to see hi and low spots when prepping for additional fiberglass layers. We could have done the whole thing epoxy like you mentioned too, its just what worked for this project. We ended up with a 4 blade 24 pitch prop. Thanks for watching!

putting sea water in your cooler will drown your crab within minutes.............unless there's an air source. better to put your catch in the cooler dry, upside down. Your catch will automatically "go to sleep" and live up to 5-hours like that. ditto for no ice. the ice will melt and the fresh water will drown your crabs

I got a couple of questions for you guys. I have a 1980 Wellcraft Airslot with a 5.7 V8 stern drive. I purchased it a few years ago and it has basically been shrink wrapped for the last 20 years. The hull looks great, just needs some polishing and new bottom paint. Engine had already been removed, and cabin gutted. The flooring was soft so I started cutting it all out. In the process of this, I found some of the stringers and transom were also soft. Originally I was going to do Coosa stringers, transom, and floor, then a new 5.7 stern drive. Now my plan is to do a bracket with an outboard or outboards. I am not concerned about labor costs because I will be doing everything myself. One big question is how good of a ride is that hull design before and after the conversion? I have never had this boat in the water, so it's a big decision to put that kind of money into it. Do you feel 250 horse is good enough or would 300 be better? I was thinking of maybe even doing twin 150s - How do you think that would be? How was the floatation after the conversion? My worry is having the stern sit too low or even too high.
@DDFishingCo18 күн бұрын
Thanks Jon! Sounds like you have a fun project on your hands! I think the 250 is plenty enough to push the boat. We can get up to 45mph. Its got plenty of torque and honestly 45 feels way to fast in this boat. We love the 250. I suppose if you wanted to do dual 150s it might be nice for trolling slow and cutting down to one motor? Not sure how the fuel consumption shakes out there. After doing the conversion it would have been nice to get some extra weight in the back of the boat. The 350 and the outdrive were all located in the very bottom of the hull and were heavy. After taking out the the i/o and putting the outboard on, we sit higher out of the water slightly. Its not the end of the world, however it would be nice to have some extra weight. The boats sits pretty even in the water, just a little higher out. Before we could put 3 guys on one side of the boat looking over the gunnel and now when you stick 3 guys on one side it leans more than it used too. I think this is due to the fact the boat used to squat lower in the water. I am not sure how much affect our pilot house plays in the leaning easily factor or just if the boat sits higher out now.
@jonschwartz73209 күн бұрын
@@DDFishingCo I posted a reply a few days ago, its not listed for some reason. I wanted to know if you think scuppers are possible instead of draining into the bilge. I want to build out the transom to incorporate a rear fishbox, livewell, and flip down seat - perhaps this with a freshwater tank where the old engine was would help the weight distribution. I posted a link to my page on the hull truth, maybe youtube removed it because of that. My restoration page is on there, under 1980 Wellcraft Airslot I/O to outboard conversion if you interested in taking a look.
@DDFishingCo5 күн бұрын
You totally could do scuppers. We were going to do that, however we were on a time crunch to get the boat down and back fishing. It would have probably set us back awhile to do that. I have seen Airslots with scuppers. I will check out your restoration page, looking forward to seeing it!
