What's a rugby piss up without that song being belted out/

Old Californian fan who grew up watching Next Generation now hunting down video clips of Sir Pat using his native accent. I don't deny I fell in love with his Shakespearean delivery, but it's a crime those BBC snobs hid the rich tapestry of British dialects from the rest of the world for so long! I may not know the vocabulary of a West Riding dialect, but my 'merican ears savor those rich, long Yorkshire vowels like a hearty soup.

I’m just indulging in a trip down memory lane, a long trip. We, in north Durham sang this at school, along with My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean. I feel I’m privileged to live in a part of the country where we are all proud of our heritage. I feel blessed that I was given an education. I’ll say no more except that these and many others are no longer heard in our schools.
