The thing with Blendo is that you have to be able to 1) stop its momentum and 2) follow up before it can build up momentum again, and the early Robot Wars designs weren't designed to take the hit that Blendo was able to dish out in that first collision. It took Blendo about 5 seconds to get up to speed again, but Punjar was already out of the fight from that first hit.

And whats insane about how far combat robotics has come is that as brutal as blendo was... a modern 30lb robot would beat blendo which weighed 140lbs... now just imagine the power of modern 250lb robots which hit at the same energy levels as a head on collision between cars at highway speed.

He originally wanted it to spin 30,000 RPM. His team did some calculations, and determined if it was spinning at that speed, the outside air around the steel dome would catch fire from just the friction. It would at that speed reach Mach 4. Also, the steel dome itself would melt. But I mean, who the hell are we to limit his genius? If he had access to superconducting wire, he could very well have created a multi-directional rail gun which shot plasma-ignited bits of metal near light speed and destroy the opponent's robot...the human opponents behind the arena cage, and the audience directly behind them. Truly wasted potential limited only by bureaucratic cowards.

I work on electronics, and test the limits of just how little shock or vibe will make a system glitch. The Blendo seems to capitalize on this idea.

This match proves just how ineffective Blendo was. The only reason the bot won so much and eventually had to be disabled and given the honorary 1st place is because he essentially took a gas-powered(?) engine which humanity has spent the past century crafting to absolute perfection and shoving it into a bot that is able to convert it in as little weight as possible. Meanwhile others had to do some janky arm lifting shenanigans or other stuff get a combat bot going.

Blendo really started an arms race. Other builders had to modify their designs to survive getting creamed by that kind of kinetic energy and the show runners had to build themselves a better box.
