Fain video! Ar fi fain sa mergeti la Borta Dracului. Acolo a fost cel mai mare carnagiu din WW2 de pe teritoriul Romaniei. In prezent este o manastire (Sfanta Cruce) si un muzeu memorial.

Great video. I'm from Moreni. We believe that from this spot, there were tunnels which were extended across the city up ahead. And also, beneath the bunker, it was another level. It's a legend in our place like, after the german soldiers saw that they're losing, they hidden all their ammo and artilery in this lower level, and then they buried them. Nobody dared to investigate tho. There was also a small town near the bunker, rumors say. People say there are some signs.
@relicsandmilitariaro2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for the comment! I don't think in all the folklore, to much work to dig tunnels, and even if it was another underground level, it was impossible to fit the Flaks on the narrow stairs :) Maybe they hidden some stuff but they retreated pretty fast, and all they left behind were given to the locals, or in case of artillery, the practice was to blew them up themselves so the "enemy" could not use them against them. All the best!

Awesome video man! What line are these bunkers part of? Do you have more information about it and the bunkers?
@relicsandmilitariaro2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for the kind words! Because of their position near the port of Giurgiu (southern Romania, near the Danube that is the natural border with Bulgaria), they were most probably built (as a test?) in the late 30s, in the same time the Carol 2 Fortification Line was built in the Western part of Romania (on the border with Hungary). Both Hungary and Bulgaria in the King Carol 2nd period were some kind of "natural" enemies, but when Romania entered the Axis in 41, they role was some kind of irrelevant, just a big waste of money and time. They look unfinished and surely they seen no action, so that some kind cements my impression that when it was clear that Romania would join the Axis Powers, there was no point of finishing the project. As a fun fact, after 23 August 1944 when Romania changed sides, the German Troops that retreated and had to find a way out of Romania that was now hostile, they did also crossed the Danube to Bulgaria. The ones that escaped, initially they were safe over there, but after 8th September Russians also came to power in Bulgaria so that was about it. All the best!

I ended up with more questions than answers. Was it a three-piece kit? A two-piece kit? Did anything nest into anything else? What was its capacity? Was it packed in the pack or worn on the belt? And was it really absolutely necessary to spin around like that?
@infantryattacks2 жыл бұрын
Well done. Very informative. After the Red Army broke through in Romania in August 1944, did the Germans or Hungarians attempt to use the bunker line to stall the Soviet advance? Probably not, because the bunkers would have been oriented the wrong way, but perhaps they used them at least temporarily to shield troops from enemy artillery.
@relicsandmilitariaro2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! What remained of the bunkers were not used because most of them were placed in low open lands - the German Troops made their retreat mostly on the higher ground where they had forest cover. For example, near Oradea they fought in the forests near the city and Baile Felix, and further north they moved quickly into Hungary. All the fighting in the open area were made in villages that were more "user friendly" :) All the best!

Some of them are in are lucky enough to be in quite ok state, others are totally gone. Haven't got the chance to visit and explore them since I live in the other side of Romania :) You can see some of the remainings here - in an article of how they are being used today as bat caves - lilieci.ro/colonia-blog/linia-fortificata-carol-mai-mult-decat-o-ruina/ Hope the link will work. Salut! Toate cele bune!

Awesome video 👍 although isn’t the circular opening for observation? I’ve seen similar bunkers on the Atlantic wall also having such opening with the same use
@relicsandmilitariaro2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think some kind of canon was mounted in the circular opening, probably with the possibility of turning it left/right, but the metal rail ring is missing. This remaining bunker sits at about 1km from the shore, near the harbour, so for it to observe things I thing is quite strange, also it has a radar near it...
