I'm not sure. None of them has run out of power yet. Given the price point and my experience with products like light-up drumsticks, I was assuming when they stop working, they're done for. I had a hell of a time trying to replace batteries in drum sticks, that's for sure.

How is that revebond neck? Like what the heck is revebond anyway?

I like the neck. did I know it was revebond? not until now, LOL. I tend to review products from a player's perspective; I don't always pay (enough) attention to the nuts and bolts of woods and the like. I just experience how things play and sound, and what features and options they have.

Fingerboard may be "revebond" but it sure does feel and look like ebony (though it's not). Will be interesting to see how the fretboard wears over time. Sound really good for the price as well. Thanks for weighing in. I'm not sure at this point that I have the original piezo system of a typical XTSA because (as detailed in other videos on my channel) I had lots of issues with my XTSA as it was shipped to me. I'm not sure if this might affect your recommendation?

I've got one and I'll tell you it's a great instrument. I just couldn't stand those EMG's they had an utter lack of low end (which you can plainly see in pickup comparison charts). With some passive humbuckers with coil split it's got so much low end it's an awesome Bass VI. Also use better (fatter) strings, the ones that come with it are really light gauge for a BassVI.
@kaleidoscopeschoolАй бұрын
Your comment about the EMGs is intriguing. I have two Strandbergs and the 7 string has active pickups, presumably because they handle low end better (vs. the 6 string which has passive pickups). What did you replace the EMGs with specifically? Did you have any issue putting heavier strings on it? So far I'm satisfied with this guitar's low end but maybe that's because I'm primarily thinking of it as a guitar. It's been awesome when teaching bass students because I find it easier to play and hold than my basses, but it's in the proper pitch range to demonstrate things to them.
@YouTube_User-9Ай бұрын
@@kaleidoscopeschool Well I wasn't sure about replacing the pickups at first so I just bought a cheap set of Wilkinson humbuckers and used them. I also replaced the pots with 500k ohm because they we 15k for the EMG's. I buy my strings from Kalium and I do have to unwind the .106 low E at the tuner to get it to fit. I have always used standard bass string gauges for my BassVIs.
@kaleidoscopeschoolАй бұрын
@@KZbin_User-9 what other Bass VI's do you own? I was curious about active vs. passive as a general issue... I have always loved Tom Anderson pickups (passive) so I put them in Violetta (my custom Ibanez 7 string) and while they are better than the stock pickups were, I think the Fishmans in my Strandberg 7 string (active) have more punch. The Diamond Heretic pickups in my 8 string Schecter are also great for lows in my opinions.

@@kaleidoscopeschool I right now just the C-VI and a Squier VI, I used to have a Dean 4 string short scale that I converted to a VI. But unfortunately I do not have that one anymore. It was actually the best bass vi I ever played. The real issue isn't really active or passive, it's that the EMG's in the C-VI (81/89) have a preamp in them with a preset EQ curve that cuts a lot of the low frequency range out. They really are made for guitar. There are great active options for bass just not EMG guitar pickups.

Black Rose is one the greatest albums ever made.
@kaleidoscopeschoolАй бұрын
When I'm talking to students about classic albums, the #1 band that I say I have grown in appreciation for over the years is Thin Lizzy, and Black Rose has a lot to do with that. In other words, there are albums like Van Halen I that I've always admired... Black Rose is the sleeper album that I wasn't blown away by in the 80s but which keeps growing in stature in my mind

Owned one for about 15 years. Had to have new, wider custom neck built for it ($700), because the bridge (impossible to move) was installed off the centerline, so the high E string was almost on the edge of the fretboard. Lately the D-string piezo saddle died, so no synth/acoustic tracking. Will get a chance to fix the dead saddle next spring when I get back to the US (residing temp. in rural Poland).
@kaleidoscopeschoolАй бұрын
What I like about it: mine plays nice, sounds great, and now that the piezo system is fixed, is a genius way to combine piezo, electric and synth tones. What I haven't liked: it's temperamental with regard to tuning. With an arsenal of 30 guitars to maintain, I don't like having to baby one of them to get the right reliabilty. And of course, getting piezo system to its current functional state was unnecessarily difficult, witness this video.

For me the factory gigs are mostly worthless, and their setlist of clean rigs are about 80% or more with a lot of distortion, and not good distortion; the good sounds are in there, just not in most of the rigs they included. I'm getting ready to dump at least 90% of the factory rigs; who needs the clutter? I do think they did a decent job building the rig called "Robbie's Fire" and "Clean Shivers", two of the very few I plan on keeping.
@kaleidoscopeschoolАй бұрын
over the years, I've primarily reprogrammed multi effects and modeling units to taste; I rarely like the stock presets, and firmly believe that the stock presets are also often a poor demo of a unit's actual sonic quality or capability. 100% true of the Line 6 Spider amps I've owned. It seems like many of the stock presets in units are designed to make a novice player in their bedroom sound huge and amazing, but don't actually work well at band volume with a band. You'd think in the the higher price ranges this would be less true and they would design with pro applications in mind, but it still seems to hold true. So far w/ the HeadRush I'm only moderately happy with what I've been able to program myself. I love the functionality of the unit and the screen and layout, but the tones aren't thrilling me yet. I've owned it a while but haven't used it as much as I like because I have three Line 6 setups for the kids in my bands and I spend a lot more time with those. But with a new band project this year I'm planning on spending a lot more time with the HeadRush and I'll share my creations on KZbin.
